Afaik, there is only two pictures from a "fitness event" with the tail section of a 109 with small tailwheel, dated ca. October 1944.

BTW, Great book. One of the best Luftwaffe pilot memoirs, told honestly and straight forwardly from a fighter pilot view's point, by a pilot that was clearly one of the great fighter pilots in the East.

War Diaries of Helmut Lipfert

Hello Oberst

According to Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10/U4 by JaPo the first Bf 109 G-10 fighters were manufactured by Erla in September 1944 with Regensburg building 121 of this type between October 1944 and January 1945. Wiener Neustädter Flugzeugwerke began manufacturing the Bf 109 G-10 in December 1944. I hope this information is accurate and helpful.

Horrido!

Very helpful Leo! I'm trying to determine when Lipfert recieved his G-10, I'm pretty sure its a WNF G-10/U4 if he got it when he was with II./JG 51. Not sure of the date that would be though.. late 1944 maybe?

First claims with it on 23 Oct 44.

Hi,

II./J.G. 52 took its first Bf 109 G-10s on strength in December 1944, and these were G-10/U4s. In October 1944 it took on strength the Bf 109 G-14. See this page: http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/jagd/biijg52.html

Re: War Diaries of Helmut Lipfert

This is interesting. The same source shows that II./JG 51 did NOT recieve any G-10's, only G-14/AS in Oct/Nov/Dec 1944.

ME 109G-10 'White 11 + -' "Rosemarie" of II./JG 52 shows the painted over gruppe II mark of II./JG 51.

How can this be if II./JG 51 had no G-10? Did 'Rosemarie' start out with JG52, went to II./JG 51 then return to II./JG 52?

Perplexing...

Hi 'Oberst',

When was Lipfert serving with II./J.G. 51? As far as I can tell he was with 6./J.G. 52 until taking command of I./J.G. 53 in mid-February 1945.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

War Diaries of Helmut Lipfert

Hi guys

According to Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10/U4 by JaPo the first unit to be assigned the Bf 109 G-10/U4 was I./JG 53 in late December 1944. II./JG 51 and II./JG 52 received the type in early January 1945. It should be noted that II./JG 52 absorbed both pilots and aircraft of the other two Gruppen as these were disbanded with this occurring on 12 April 1945 with regards to II./JG 51 and on 17 April 1945 with regards to I./JG 53. I hope this information is accurate and helpful.

Horrido!

So he would have got his G-10 a little before 22.12.44. So its possible his was 'Rosemarie'. I wonder if he mentions in his book? I must order it.

Re: War Diaries of Helmut Lipfert

a little bit OT, but... the "Sportfest"-pictures I was referring to above, show one G-6 style tail with Werknummer 510915, whic should be a G-14 from Wien (WNF).

Does anyone know about the fate of this airframe?

I don't know the name of Lipfert's first wife, whom he married in Krakau in the 2nd half of 1944. His second wife whom he married before the end of the war is named Margot. I doubt, he called his A/C "Rosemarie", being married to a "Margot".

BTW, where is the link to that Rosemarie-skin?

Oberst 13th August 2012 17:55

Re: War Diaries of Helmut Lipfert

Hmmm, that takes care of that then. The Hunt continues. I'm sure Gerhard Richter was not 'Rosemarie' pilot.

The skin isn't ready yet.. but soon =)
