Mishap He 115 Wnr 2721 8L+EL 3./KFlGr906
Dear all,
A series of pictures has popped up of a damaged He 115 Wnr 2721 8L+EL of 3./KFlGr906 at Schellingwoude/Amsterdam in autumn 1940. The damage is at the trailing edge of the wing and it appears to me that this aircraft must have been reported as damaged for at least 5%. I cannot find any matching incident in the GQM returns and hope that somebody, by coincidence, has this incident of file. Perhaps forum member Seaplanes has, who appears to be very well informed! Thanks in advance, Hans Nauta |

Re: Mishap He 115 Wnr 2721 8L+EL 3./KFlGr906
I have never seen a damage report while serving with 3./906 in 1940.
This would normally indicate that the damage was less than 10%. Reported serving with 1./706 from Aalborg-See as 6I+EH during 1941 and in 1942 with 1./906 before being passed on to 1./406 as K6+OH. 100% on 14.05.44 north of Roervik Norway en-route from Hommelvik (Trondheim) to Kirkenes. Shot down by aircraft of No. 800 Sq Fleet Air Arm. |

Is your photo source eBay or a private collection? Can you confirm which wing the damage is confined to?

Hi Adam,
Well, well, the emblem of 3./KFlGr906 as avatar! It's the starboard flap and wing trailing edge just to the right of the engine nacelle (and starboard wingtip). Please contact me off-board for more info about the pictures at hnauta AT quicknet DOT nl. Please replace AT and DOT for the obvious symbols. Regards, Hans |

Hi
I have this plane at 30. Dec.41, 15.Apr.42, 30. Apr.42 and 18. June 42 at Aalborg. It shall belonged to FlHKdtr.(See)Aalborg ? Is it possible, that this plane in fact belonged to 1./KFGr.706 ? best wishes JoMe |

The markings and Werknummer are clearly visible, perhaps 2721 first belonged to 3./KFlGr906?

Re: Mishap He 115 Wnr 2721 8L+EL 3./KFlGr906
1./706 took over several He 115 from 3./906, some when this unit traded in its regular He 115's with He 115 aircraft converted for extended range. This took place from about August to September 1940. However, on 01.12.40 the unit begang conversion to Ju 88 and at the same time was redesignated 2./106.
Another ex. 3./906 aircraft that was transferred to 1./706 was 8L+ML that became 6I+FH. |
Re: Mishap He 115 Wnr 2721 8L+EL 3./KFlGr906
Untill august 1940 1/706 had He 59 on strenght. In august it began to recive a few He 115 from other units and some Ar 196. Untill december the Ar carried Skz, and the He 115 flew with the Vkz of the former users. 8L+ML had a few mishaps in autum 1940. And to JoMe yes it belonged to 1/706.

Hi guys
Resurrecting an old post, but might this have been the He115 attacked by a Blenheim on 27 June 1940 "off the Dutch coast" as mentioned in my recent enquiry? Cheers Brian |
