Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Was Peter Freiherr von Malapert, KIA on 11 September 1941, a next-of-kin to WWI ace Freiherr von Malapert-Neufville?
Thanks Chris |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
From JFV by Prien "11.09.41 7./JG 54 Lt. Peter Frhr. von Malapert KG Luftkampf, Jan-Jedrowo, 100% Bf 109 F-2 #9686 ws. 1 +~ "

Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Hi
Lt. von Malapert was captured in a typycal Ostermann-Raid behind the russian lines, he was shot down from a gunner of a SB-2/3 Bomber. Greetings Christian |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Peter was not KIA, he survived the war. His brother, Robert-Georg, the famous Stuka ace, did not.

Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Thanks to all, but it's way off the mark.
I just want know if he was of the same family as the WWI ace. |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Chris, I couldn't find a German ace from WW1 by that name in the book that I have on German aces.

OMG! Confusion in my head.
You're damn right and the one off the mark here is me! Thanks. |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Hello,
Having another question about the same pilot, I rather ressurect this thread rather than creating a new one. The German loss list is giving the loss location as "Jan-Jedrowo", east of lake Ilmen. Could this be Yedrovo, Valdayskiy rayon, Novgorodskaya Oblast ? http://www.maplandia.com/russia/novg...rayon/yedrovo/ It is the only location I could find in the JG 54 area, but it seems a little too far east for me, until Malapert was really flying a raid on Soviet far rear area. Thanks in advance Laurent |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Laurent, since III/JG 54 was stationed at Dno on the 09Sep41 and went to "Siweskaja" on the 12Sep41 this was the closes point at the time of the loss. They were probably flying in support of the advance in the Demyansk area.

Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Malapert-Neufville returned after 6 year "Freizeit-Lager" so in 1947, it seems that the soviets used Malapert image, did he participate to...
There is an article about him on the Jägerblatt 09/92, his EKM 51576/24 Rémi |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Hi rather than resurect a new thread i continue with this one.
Would anybody be able to tell me anything about his earlier career ie. did he serve during the campaigns in the West or the Balkans.? Perhaps Remi or maybe somebody else has the copy of Jagerblatt thay may give this info. Best regs, Steve. |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Here is what information we have about the WWII Malapert:
MALAPERT-NEUFVILLE, Peter Ferdinand Freiherr von. (DOB: 11.02.22). 26.06.41 Lt., 7./JG 54. 30.06.41 Lt., 7./JG 54 MIA - Bf 109 force-landed in the area of Dünaburg - returned later. 11.09.41 POW - Bf 109 F-2 (White 1) shot down by MiG-3s in the area of Jan-Jedrow and captured - reputedly collaborated with the Soviets, writing leaflets to convince other pilots to desert. Postwar, he joined the Bundesluftwaffe, rising to Obstlt. †23.09.99. Credited with 5 victories. As for the WWI Malapert, I can find nothing about him. I searched the WWI Aviation Website "The Aerodrome" and found nothing! DGS |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Many thanks for your reply Doug, much of this i have already found.
I am still keen to discover whether he had any previous service prior to the Russian Campaign commencing June 1941. Did he join from a training group? Best regs, Steve. |
Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Looking at his age (just over 19) my guess is he joined 7/JG 54 from training but whether this was prior to Barbarossa or just after is open to debate

Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)
Morning Chris, im under the impression he may have perhaps joined from as you say, training.
Would it be possible to determine from his EKM No. 51576/24 when he was allocated to 7/JG54. Is this 7/JG54? Best regs, Steve. |
