Oberst Theo Osterkamp: Stab/JG 51, Bf 109E

Hello all!

I was wondering if there are any known fotos/profile drawings of Oberst Theo Osterkamp's Bf 109E when he flew with Stab/JG 51. Many thanks in advance :)

Hello,

I think that the "profile" of Osterkamp's 109 on the cover of the book is more than a little fanciful. If anyone actually has photos of any a/c assigned to him during the 1939-40 period, I'd appreciate hearing about it for possible profiling purposes for the EoE Project. Is this book an autobiography in Spanish? When and where was it published. Is there a German or English language edition?

Hello,

Yes, there is a German, French and English publications of Osterkamp book. Just look Amazon. Of course this is a fancy cover.

Giving the date (see Prien) he was Kdr, and the short time he stood there, I'm thinking that Mölders just took his plane.
I won't be surprised.

Regards, Franck.

Re: Oberst Theo Osterkamp: Stab/JG 51, Bf 109E

Hello,

Can anyone who has a copy of this book provide any information on how useful this book is as a historical reference work? Osterkamp was the first Gesch Kde of JG51, and held that job from the date the Gesch Stab was formed during Sept., 1939, until Werner Mölders assumed command of the unit in July, 1940. I've never heard of this book before. Is it an autobiography or bio of Osterkamp? He apparently lived until 1975, so it could be his autobio. How detailed and useful is it in relating his experiences and activities during the 1939-40 period? What is the book title in English? Jochen Prien's JFV books have no photos of his a/c during 1939-40, in fact only contain one photo of an a/c of the Stab of JG51 for the entire period when he was Gesch Kde, and it isn't his. Are any photos known of his a/c or other a/c of the Stab of JG51 other than the photo of -+- published in JFV #2 of the Prien series? It seems very strange to me that almost no photos of the Gesch Stab of JG51 are known until Mölders took command in late July, 1940.

Re: Oberst Theo Osterkamp: Stab/JG 51, Bf 109E

Oberst, Larry,

Larry, I had and still have the same feeling concerning Prien book, 4.2. Mölders, and .. Mölders.
Before that;
In first chapter Prien remind them that reaching Cap Blanc nez, the Stab Staffel had 4 planes three pilots, only two being able to fly! (sic) ...

German title "Durch Höhen und Tiefen jagt ein Herz" published in 1955. It's an autobiography.
French title "Avant tout pilote de chasse" (Editions France-Empire) (See picture under.
No trace of english publication in fact.
But, good news: AVIONS N°136, July 2004 contains a Theo Osterkamp article.

That's all folks. Franck.
