Me 262s from the Innsbruck-Hötting inventory.
Taken at the south end of the airfield towards the river Inn - recognizable at the telephone(?) poles and the poplar alley in the background.
WNr is questionable because usually (WNr 111712, 111857, 170053, 111974, 500490, 112360) the jets along the poplar alley have been photographed. Might be one of those WNr: 500524, 111751, 112360, 113368, 113369

Re: Me 262 photos

Thanks for sharing these with us Ed.

Roland, the respective markings and camouflage schemes reveal that the first machine (viewed from the rear) is from the 1113xx series, so possibly 11368 or 113369. The second aircraft, (viewed from the front) is from the 500xxx series, so possibly 500524
.
Based on photographic and narrative edvidence, many of the aircraft that were assigned to JV 44 while at München-Riem were never given a white number, or used operationally (i.e. many of those listed in the 26 April 1945 document). Those that did were ones obtained while forming up at Branderburg-Briest in March, and a few brought to M-R by pilots in early April. As you will recall, Galland and others have stated that they had far more aircraft than they could possibly use (including those from I./KG 51 that were returned to the unit along with their pilots). Other aircraft were being turned over to JV 44 directly from the DHL 'conversion' facilities at M-R (indeed, several aircraft are listed under both the "JV 44" and "DLH" columns).

Finally, I believe that the second image has been published several times in the past, including in Robert Forsyth's opus.

Cheers,

David

These overhead power lines (zoom in and you can see the insulators) are still there today. If you look on Google Earth, you can see the shadows of the pylons on the grass; the lines are also shown on a modern map I have of Innsbruck.

Thank you Nick for additional info :)

Re: Me 262 photos

Indeed, this power line is still existent, crossing the river Inn to the right of the pic.

http://tiris.tirol.gv.at/scripts/esr...&PrintMap.y=12

So the 1st photo must have been taken looking southwest towards the "Sulzkogel" massif, the 2nd one looking northwest across the poplar alley connecting Innsbruck and Telfs towards the "Nordkette" mountain range.
The jets are thus standing close to the river bank and, indeed, a photograph of Hötting a/f shows at least three Me 262s and 2 Ju 87 lined up along the dirt road following the river bank.

Maybe the WNr can be recognized on the original? Other differences can be seen watching the application of the camo on the jet gondolas, especially the jet intakes being painted differently.
And yes, "Red 1", "White 4" and "White 12" can be excluded, as well as "Black 712"

Roland
