Re: Fonthill Media
By the by Jay, any date yet for the release of "Whirlwind: Westland's Enigmatic Fighter"?
Really hanging for this book. |
Re: Fonthill Media
And please, a release date for fighters over Stalingrad!
|

This is my fault that Stalingrad book has been delayed. Fonthill will surely advise the nearest release date as soon I handle them the finished manuscript, that I can not do up to now due to my personal reasons. |
Re: Fonthill Media
Jay,
I applaud your efforts to keep people informed. I wish more publishers did that. Granted, some may not feel the need since they are well-known brands, but even makers of soda pop in the US advertise constantly. Yes, I know print ads are expensive but the internet? There's no excuse for publishers - some who wonder about their sales or lack thereof - to not post here or on other, related sites. As part of a fiction book publishing company across the pond, even a few mentions are valuable. I know the sites where I can announce new releases and promote books about to go to press. Nothing fancy need be done. Best, Ed West |
Re: Fonthill Media

Jay
When can we expect Westland Whirlwind book? |
Re: Fonthill Media
Jay:
I agree with Ed West regarding your efforts at informing us about forthcoming publications. After all, these are not time-sensitive stuff in terms of "need to now now"! Just do it right, and, by all means keep us updated. The members of the web site and others are your most likely purchasers. |

Re: Fonthill Media
The Westland Whirlwind book is now available! :-)

Re: Fonthill Media
Excellent news! By the way, please post those sample pages on your site asap!
|
Re: Fonthill Media
It was published indeed. On Friday I received a note from the bookshop where I ordered my copy that it's waiting. Now I'm only waiting for First of the Few.
|
Re: Fonthill Media
Received mine on Monday. Just from a quick glance through it is very impressive.
Having read the first few pages the writing style is engaging and free flowing, the book is contains many photo's and in the appendix there is a history of all manufactured Whirlwinds. Brilliant. Can't wait for the weekend. Am going to find a quiet spot in the garden and settle down and read through it come what may! |
Re: Fonthill Media
Does it have test reports etc.?
|
Re: Fonthill Media
Per se, no.
However it nevertheless does go into quite some detail on the development of the Whirlwind eg Chapter 2 'Contenders and Prototypes', and Chapter 3 'Perfecting the Whirlwind'. And Appendix 2 'The Whirlwind Uncovered' provides very specific detail of the make-up and effectiveness of the aircraft components through specific sections eg Fuselage, Wing, Flying Controls, Armament, Hydraulics, Fuel System, Radio, Weights and Performance, Roll-Royce Peregrine, and some basic technical data. |
Re: Fonthill Media
By your estimate, how much of the book concerns Whirlwind design, development and engineering stuff, how much operational narrative ("X number of Whirlwinds took off at XXXX hrs and did this and that."?
|
Re: Fonthill Media
1/3 to 2/3's
|
Re: Fonthill Media
Will we see Fighters over Stalingrad in July?
Ed |
Re: Fonthill Media
No answer so far, I guess we must forget July.
|
Re: Fonthill Media
Gentlemen,
Please receive my apologies and let me explain the situation. The delay occured not due to Fonthill's fault. At the beginning of the year my son got a serious diagnosis and I had to postpone all the research work including the last strokes of almost ready part I. Will keep you updated on the book. |
Re: Fonthill Media
Thank you, Nikita. I hope your son recovers.
Best, Ed |
Re: Fonthill Media
Two questions about your books.
First, when can we expect "First of the Few"? The big online shop says 23rd September but it's still unavialable. Second, what's the estimate publishing date of "263 and 137 Squadrons: The Whirlwind Years."? |
