Baltic Sea - found the Douglas A-20
Hi All
Plane lies at a depth of 15 meters, kept in very good condition, nearly all complete. Recovery action of wreckage will start soon. The entire operation is performed by Krakow Aviation Museum, where the restoration of the machine will be the next acquisition in museum. http://www.tvn24.pl/pomorze,42/dougl...wa,336478.html Regards, Jarek |

Re: Baltic Sea - found the Douglas A-20
Hi Danny
I'm also impressed with the team that conducted the study basin ... This wreck is in very good condition though conditions in Baltic Sea. It is worth extraction. After recovery it will be a second exhibit of this plane in Europe. Regards, Jarek |
Re: Baltic Sea - found the Douglas A-20
Presumably, this is a Russian-flown A-20 as the US 9th AF did not operate anywhere near this area?

Re: Baltic Sea - found the Douglas A-20
Hi All
The good news so; Established term recovery wreck this occurs in October. So given Dept. Operational Oceanography Maritime Institute in Gdansk. After preliminary studies, the wreck is in good condition, has two engines, propellers, both wings, missing only the tail, but the rear gunner's position .... Good news indeed, I knew the museum was hoping to recover the aircraft, but thought it would be too expensive. Do you know who is funding it? regards Dave |

Re: Baltic Sea - found the Douglas A-20
I know the 51 MTAP A-20 Bostons in service on January 1, 1945. I am sure recovered plane was one of them. About 60% from the 43-21XXX, and 40% from the 43-9XXX series. Any info on engine and plane serial number(s)??? They might help to identify the crew.

Another film from harbour:
http://www.interia.tv/wideo-niesamow...s&iwa_testab=a First of all they have to clean wrack for numbers , etc. ...... But tail with number is missing as we can see :( :) |
Re: Baltic Sea - found the Douglas A-20
No problem. Documents list engine serials and plane serials together and the engines are both there. Also, plane serial number was painted on other places as well, eg. underneath the pilot's cockpit, etc.
