Col. Robert R. Scott,USAF
 

Gentlemen,

Not many people knew that Robert R. Scott had flew P-61s at night to score 2 Japanese planes during WWII and scored one victory over a North Vietnamese fighter jet during the Vietnam War. He also flew much combat in the Korean War and tangled with MiG-15s but wasn't able to record a confirmed kill. He did made bombing attacks on North Korean airfelds destroying enemy planes on the ground. Scott was the winner of four Silver Stars,six Distinguished Flying Crosses ,and three Legion of Merits in three Wars.

Who are you talking about? There is no Robert R. Scott listed in Frank Olynyk's definitive tome, "Stars and Bars" which often records less than ace accomplishments.

Do you have his DD service record to show this?

Capt. Robert R Scott is credited with a Lily destroyed on Oct 29, 1944 between 2100 and 2245, in a P-61A, with the 426thNFS. He is credited with a TE bomber probable on Nov 21, 1944 at 2100. His radar operator in both cases was FO Charles W Phillips. He is not credited with any air-to-air or air-to-ground victories in Historical Study 81 USAF Credits for the Destruction of Enemy Aircraft Korean War. On March 26, 1967 he is credited with a MiG-17 at 1520, in F-105D-15 61-105 while flying with the 333rdTFS of the 355th TFW.

So, not an ace, and only two victories. The only other pilot with victories in WW2 and Vietnam that I am aware of is Robin Olds.

Say Frank, I know Mahurin & Gabreskie (and probably others but my mind is drawing a blank) downed aircraft in WW2 & Korea & Robin Olds did so in WW2 & Vietnam. Has anybody succeeded in scoring a vic/vics in all three wars?

No Americans scored victories in all three wars. A fairly large number scored in WW2 and Korea (including RAF, RCAF, and RAAF). The only claimant (I think just one, Kasler) in both Korea and Vietnam is credited with a damaged MiG-17 on July 19, 1966.

Numerous Russians scored in both WW2 and Korea, but there are no verified reports of Russian claims in Vietnam. And just rumors of North Korean claims in Vietnam.

Gentlemen,

I knew that Scott had flew plenty of intense missions in the F-86 Sabre during the Korean War and won a few DFCs plus a Silver Star. I wonder if there were citations for these awards for Scott for the Korean War? Thank you.

Gentlemen,

Well Robert R. Scott was one of the least known fighter pilot of the USAF that did very much for his country in three wars. Yet he was highly decorated and should have a good study about him.

I still think that Robert R. Scott while attacking enemy airfields in Korea had destroyed some enemy planes on the ground. What else besides planes that Scott had attacked and destroyed on enemy airfields?

Looking through the Ospry book on Mig 17 and 19 units of the Vietnam war I can find no losses this day. Someone needs to do a US claims vs losses during the Vietnam war.
