Buried in Spain
Good afternoon, through the photographic file that I have in Bilbao British Cemetery, I am investigating air accidents occurred in Spain in the years of the Second World War. Practically I have almost everything sorted but I have some flyers to the data that I have I can not complete the data that I need, such as that plane died. As I have a blog that I research all this, I find that I need planes that fell in Spain. I would ask whether, in view of the data that I have, to at least know that plane came and also complete the events of his death and know because they are buried in Spain.
I leave the address of my blog, in case you want to make a check is made. http://incidentessgm.blogspot.com.es Thank you very much and Greetings PHILLIPSON EDWARD ROBERT 1056596 RAFVR Sergeant 17/08/42 58 RAF Sqdn Bilbao British BROPHY JAMES JOSEPH 1545658 RAFVR Sergeant 19/04/45 14 RAF Sqdn Bilbao British CALLADINE FRANCIS WILLIAM 927937 RAFVR Sergeant 31/12/42 179 RAF Sqdn Malaga British ROSS ALBERT ARTHUR 1331478 RAFVR Sergeant 03/06/43 179 RAF Sqdn Malaga British VERNALL ERIC 1381824 RAF Sergeant 10/07/42 Algeciras |
Re: Buried in Spain
I have Sgt Philipson's logbook, medals, photos and his brevet all of which were given to me by his brother as a thank you for finding out how he was killed-he was shot down by a FW 200 of KG 40 (and I have the logbook entry from one of the German crew of that FW 200)

Re: Buried in Spain
Agustin,
For Sgt Brophy: see http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho....-loss-19-4-45 Crew member of Wellington NB858. Regards, Leendert |
Re: Buried in Spain
Agustin,
Sgt. Phillipson was the only recovered crew member of a Whitley that was lost without a trace on 17-03-1942. Other crew were Uglton, Savage, Marshall, Metivier and one Australian: Kenneth Leslie. These are commemorated at Runnymede. Regards, Leendert |
Re: Buried in Spain
Please read 17-08-1942 instead of 17-03-1942 for Phillipson.
Regards, Leendert |

Good afternoon Alex, if I assume that is useful, I have the data needed, and a starting point to clarify things. Thank you very much for your help and sorry for the late reply.

Re: Buried in Spain
Agustin
295 Sq lost one Halifax V EB139 when it ditched in the Med 100 mls East of Gibraltar. Date was 25.9.1943. My guess is that this is your aircraft in question. I have nothing on 301 FTU except that I find it a bit strange to have an aircraft from a Training Unit that far away from Britain...., but perhaps they simply had to use staff from such units as well. Re: Buried in Spain
Good night and thank Stig.
This information I got from a website about escapees and interned British and Commonwealth (conscript-heroes), I could get nothing more and confirm the data of the Squadron. So I put the names in case they could find by that fact. Anyway thank you very much for your help. regards Agustin |
