Hi Byron,

Where in the Aegean is this? I used to live on Rhodes and did a lot of diving there.

Hi Byron,

57m deep! Cristal clear waters ... and cold.
...
I've been there, sailing a 1928 sailing boat, coming from France, final destination being Rodos for charter during summer time.

I'm sure you've seen her Byron: Her name is "Milena". She sailing in Greece every year since last 70s ...

Very nice photos; thanks to share them.

Regards, Franck.

Hi Franck,

Yes, i know "MILENA", unfortunately the old Ferry, after a long career in the Aegean, has been dismantled.
best regards from Salonika

Ah ah ah ...

Right!
Thinking well I took "your" Milena, too, coming back from Rodos where I left "mine"...

I was so drunk (ouzo) I did vomit (moussaka) on self restaurant's checkout, drawer OPENED!!!! Just imagine to give the change ...

Thanks for sharing Franck...

Byron, a bit of lick, spit, and duct tape, and she'll take to the air in 6-9 months.

All the best

Andreas

Re: Plane wreck in the Aegean

Thanks for the clarification. Franck, I have also seen 'your' Milena at Rodos, I lived there in 1983-84, and my dad for ten years. I knew some people who lived on their boats year round, was always an entertaining international community there.

Aw, guys...

This has to be the funniest post I've read in a while... I roared out loud with laughter... mental image of Franck throwing up into a cash register unaware of Byron substituting his elegant yacht for a rusty old tub... :D !

Seriously, though... it's not often I say this about a wreck at the bottom of a ridiculously clear blue sea, but that first image especially gives a stunning view.

A great find and very well photographed...

Regards to all,

Paul

Hi guys,
I think we have lots of boat and sea admirers here

“Happy is the man, I thought, who, before dying, has the good fortune to sail the Aegean sea.”

There's a slight danger of you guys going off topic!

Re: Plane wreck in the Aegean

Hi Nick,
There are a lot of German planes under these waters, we have only to find them

Re: Plane wreck in the Aegean

Very true. The old people in Plimiri, at the south end of Rodos, told me that a JU52 was lying in the water, not far off shore, and that members of the crew had washed ashore and were buried in the local church cemetery. I tried but could not find the wreckage. This was from when the Italians switched sides in September, 1943. I did some digging around the ruins of the Italian barracks, and found many relics, including spent 98K cartridges and 30mm cannon casings.

Re: Plane wreck in the Aegean

Hi Vince,
This plane you mean was a Stuka Ju 87 and has finally been raised from the bottom of the sea in 2006. It`s now in Tatoi museum.

Hello everybody, The plane has been dived and identified since 2009 thanks to Dave and Ferdinando D'Amico.
