Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
Hi,
How about KG938 of 178 Sqdn lost (Warsaw) on the 21/8/44 or EW229 of 34 SAAF lost (St Valentine) also on the 21st. Good Hunting Alex |
Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
The only Warsaw sorties on 21/22 and 22/23 August were flown by Poles.

Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
Hi
I have the following info EV839 was not on 31,34 SAAF sqn strength so must have been 178 RAF sqn. EW261 was shot down by Night Fighters on way to bomb Marshalling yards at Miskolc. It was from 31 SAAF Code Y and the crew was S African under Capt FC Serfontein. If you want all their names let me know. If it was same date it must have been a whole 205 BG effort. Stefaan |
Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
Thanks guys,
I would like to confirm whether EW 261 crashed at Miskolcz for sure... And I would like to know crash site of EV839 if possible... Thanks Peter |
Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
Ello Peterka,
on that night Miskolc was a target, I have some remembrances about that bombing raid (and have losses as well, I'll check them) Se ya, |
Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
Thanks, but the crash loction confirmation would be of help...I have one 4engine bomber crash listed south of Rimaszombat, SLovakia and cannot identify it...so maybe it is not 15AF plane but 205.BG RAF plane...

Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
I'll check my available stuffz (altough regarding this particular attack, I have more info from the ground but I guess, I have some losses from that day as well).
And yes, on 22 August, 1944 not just the 15th AAF had Liberator losses, semms to me, that in early hours of 22 August, 1944 the 205th BG suffered some B-24 and/or Halifax losses as well. |
Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
The list of 205 Bomber Group losses (4 engined bombers) I have, although I am not 100% sure about serial for the a/c lost over Yugoslavia. I think I got it from escapee report which I lost somehow among my papers.

Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
Thanks Schenk,
Any closer identifications of crash sites than country?? The problem is that the crash site I know about is now in southern Slovakia, but was ruled and occupied during WWII by HUngarians as a part of Hungary. thats why sometimes referring to HUngary may be souther today Slovakia what is of my interest... Re: lost Lib on August 22, 1944
