8/10-1944
Gents
On 8/10-44 at 18:15 hours a German bomber believed to be a He 111 of 7.KG 3 took of on a mission. Apparently it was shot Down as a crew member was washed ashore in Denmark on 2/12-44. The letter informing the Family about the loss was written by Leutnant and Staffelführer Horst Leutloff L 60097/Hamburg 1. Is theer anyone who can support with information ? Best regards Soren Flensted |

Re: 8/10-1944
I thought by Oct 44, 7/KG 3 had become 1/KG 53 and had moved from Venlo to Varrelbusch? I know there was a grey period and if you want me to check further, I have the NVM at home

Re: 8/10-1944
Hello Soren,
I have the 7./KG 3 from 14.09.44 to 14.11.44 at Münster-Handorf, they became renamed 1./KG 53 on 20.10.44. |
Re: 8/10-1944
I think the Gruppe was operating from Varrelbusch at the time. In its evening strength return on 9 October it reported 20 (7) aircraft and 49 (27) crews;
He 111 H-16 W.Nr. 161898 was missing. |
Re: 8/10-1944
Hi
I have received a NVM and it states 7./KG 3 |

Re: 8/10-1944
Hello,
Possible claimant for 7./KG 3 He 111 5K+KR, W.Nr 161898, here: http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...d=1#post100532 Any comments, Brian? Col. |
Re: 8/10-1944
Hi Col
You have the Mosquito taking off on the evening of October 7 ? The He 111 took off on the evening of October 8. |
Re: 8/10-1944
Hi Soren
l'm aware of that fact. That's why l asked if Brian Cull, one of the sources of my information, had any comments to make. Col. |
Re: 8/10-1944
The loss was definitely 8 Oct 44 and there are no claims that night. Travers of 25 Sqn damaged a He 111 at 1956 hrs the night before which could be 5K+LS of 8/KG 3 albeit the K Report gives no reason for its loss nor did Klaus Schulte when I corresponded with him!

Re: 8/10-1944
Quoting from a list in the booklet "Flying Bombs Over the Pennines" ( Manchester attack 24th. Dec.) this shows claims on V-1 launchers as follows :-
Night of 5/6 Oct. 25 sqd. claimed a He111 destroyed over the N.Sea Night of 6/7 Oct. 25 sqd. claimed a He111 destroyed and two contacted but finally lost. Night of 7/8 Oct. 25 sqd. aircraft fired at He111 but result unknown. Mosquito failed to return. (another) He111 contacted but lost I assume this came from Squadron ORB. From NVMs these are the losses I have:- 5th Oct 5K+LS ditched off Norfolk Coast 3 Pows 2 missing, 'K' report says pilot ditched following engine failure. 6th Oct 5K+KS made emergency landing near Venlo after returning from attack with combat damage 5 lightly inj. 8th Oct 5K+KR crew missing from attack on England two washed ashore, and 5K+DS crew killed in crash near Groet N. holland while on mission to attack England. Home Office Key Point damage report for week ending 0600hrs. on 11th Oct. 1944 claims V-1 attacks on 5 nights in the previous week Perhaps Brian Cull has more, Regards Brian Bines |
Re: 8/10-1944
This is getting a little confused. 5-6 Oct Jones of 25 Sqn claimed a He 111 dest 45 miles east of Lowestoft 1945 hrs; Marshal of 25 Sqn claimed a He 111 dest 50 miles east of Southwold 1956 hrs 6-7 Oct; Travers of 25 Sqn He 111 dam 60 mile east Lowestoft 1956 hrs
Lt Hans Bohne in 5K+KS of 8/KG 3 force-landed at Venlo 6 Oct 44 after combat with all 5 crew lightly wounded. Uffz Hans Schulte in 5K+LS was reported lost 7 Oct 44 but the K report states they were picked up 1400 hrs on 6 Oct; Uffz Winfried Brender in 5K+KR was reported missing 8 October 44 with various crew being washed ashore later; Fw Lothar Gall in 5K+DS collided with a comms tower at 2000 hrs 8 Oct 44 and crashed at Groet |
Re: 8/10-1944
Hmmm, I have the following:
"One H.E. 111 destroyed over North Sea by Mosquito of 25 Sqdn., during Flying Bomb activity." And then, "One of the H.E. 111 launching aircraft was damaged by a Mosquito of 25 Squadron." Stephen |
