Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Regarding BA-MA, RL 3/2220, the D-INUI was an Junkers A48.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Hi Rasmussen, tanks for the replay, strange becahuse we have a picture showing D-INUI as a Ar66. But may be it was intended to be so, ending up with another factory taking the registration.

So D-INUI is a Ar66

Merlin 4th August 2014 12:10

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Rasmussen,

I have the A 48 WNr. 3362 as D-INUT.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Maybe an error in the documents or in my lists ...

D-IKYH I have in Fliegerschule Böblingen in 06/36.

edNorth 4th August 2014 14:28

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

re D-INUT, Rolf Baltabol writes clearly twice in his logbook 06.1934
A 48 D-ENUT W.Nr. 3362 (this possibly in error for D-INUT)
but this had modified rear fuselage & single tail

D-IKYH had c/n 551

Ar 66 C WNr. 0410 ND+NX with Sch./FAR 10 Nov 1939 to September 1940 then FFS(A/B) 125 until October 1941. Febeuary 1943 with FFS(A/B) 3 at Guben.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Ed,

all A 48 aircraft, which received a four letter civil registration were in the D-I class. This aircraft was too heavy for a D-E registration.

Norbert,

I have a photo copy of this Ar 66C from Sch./FAR 11 at Schönwalde during 1940. It shows clearly the number 410 in white at the fuselage below the wing and the registration PJ+A? (unfortunately the last letter is hidden behind the wing).
I'm afraid you have to check your source for WNr. 410 = ND+NX again.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Hi Merlin
Thanks for posting these details, much appreciated. Is there any chance of posting the photo of the Ar66C showing the W/Nr. I ask this because the W/Nr could be partially hidden by wing struts as there were also a range of Ar66C W/Nrs in the 1400 series. So possible the W/Nr could be 1410 in your photo.

Regards
Tom

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Merlin, I do know, not first time here today :-)

But what is your (corrected) source for D-INUT if not this logbook?

I was merely informing of that A 48 D- NUT 3362 has written logboook source and what it was. Besides its now well over 40 years since I stated my researche´s into aviation history in general and have come across quite a few "exceptions" and "mistakes" and "surprises" and such.

I recommmend put in "safety" clause, as never say never, when it comes to anything RLM or Luftwaffe business. Or even USAAF for that matter. Latest surprise I saw was a twin engined B-17G (outer engines and nacelles removed and faired). Ok, I knew of a twin Halifax (taxi trainer).

Post #10: The photo is not my property, therefore I can not post it. The number is clearly redable and not hidden by any strut.

Post #11: My entries for D-INUT are from the Flugbuch Baltabol and the monthly accident summary for June 1935 which lists the A 48 D-INUT as a 100% crash with Fliegergruppe (S) Schleißheim.

Post 12: some additional data for these Ar 66 aircraft

Ar66C WNr.0767 D-INUI
Under repair at Basser company Berlin 03.42

Ar66C WNr.0410 D-IPES
Used by DLV Hamburg from 12.34 until 04.36 and later Fliegerübungsstelle Hamburg during summer 1937

The correlation to registration ND+NX is wrong - see post #10.
The flights listed in your table did belong to ND+NX.

Ar66C WNr. 0551 D-IKYH
Fliegerschule Böblingen 05.35 to 08.37, school moved to Nellingen 09.37

Hi Merlin

Thanks for your detailed reply

My notes on ND+NX have the same details but does not not refer to any W/Nr.

If it is any help the PJ+A? for the Ar66C only relates from PJ+AA to PJ+AK

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Note: Repaired aircraft (often) had parts fitted from other aircraft. After 1937 this was the rule: Do not wait for parts to be repaired; fit whatever parts (that) already were repaired and available. The rear part of fuselage (the part below the fin) ruling what W.Nr. the completed airframe had. After 1941, in that area a triangular "emergency" dataplate was fitted. This gives type and W.Nr., but I suppose you already know this.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Thanks a lot for the foto Eric, it is defnetly a Ar66, and indeed 410 ( in wite below the cocpit lh side - green camo ?). But the code is not good to see, and can as well be PJ insted of RO. Can be A after the cross, then a letter outlined in wite. Lets hope Merlin have the same foto i a better condition.

Lets hope someone have info on WrkNr 2170.

Ernst.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

We most likely have solved the ID for WrkNr.410 by coversation and comparison of the two fotos. Thanks for the cooperation Eric Guillaume and Gerhard Stemmer. As Eric`s foto shows a horisontal line on the 4 letter. we conclude on RO + AZ.
The Z insted of a P relay on that FFS A/B 14 until June 1942 and RO+AZ after service with A/B 14 ( 410 insted of stf insignia )

I will update the summary later when we get more WrkNr`s from the wrecks in Bodø or find even more at Sola

Hmm ... what do think about FB Zima? There is mentioned Ar 66, W.Nr.1245, PD+NY, in 06/42. I'm not sure about the reliability of this logbook.

Best regards
Rasmussen

P.S.: In FB Beck I've found the Ar 66, W.Nr.1446, too.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

As you both see 1244 is stamped on a fairing. As we have found other WrkNr the same way, we can recon this as confirmed,

This wil then give 1244 as PD + NX then ?

Not for sure ... regarding my log entries is W.Nr.892, PD+NK, and W.Nr.1245, PD+NY, and I don't know if W.Nr.1245 is the begin of the batch or an part of another.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

To Merlin:
You say that there were no Ar 66 between W.Nr. 1198 and 1801. In fact, there were at least two series of Werk Nummern, one in the 1200 series
and one in the 1400 series. I have from aircraft repair reports at least between 60 and 70 W.Nummer that prove this. They are reports in the RL 3 documents series from Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv. Again I urge you to quote what sources you are using.
The W.Nr. 1244 is absolutely valid. This aircraft arrived at Hans Klemm Flugzeugbau in Böblingen on 17.09.1937 and spent 86 days there for repairs.

Re: Any Flugbuch entries for Ar66

Sorry for the confusion triggered by my last post.

There were indeed Ar 66 in this number range. They were build by AGO from autumn 1935 to spring 1936 and were officially delivered as 2/1201 to 2/1258 and 2/1399 to 2/1450.

WNr. 2/1244 has had the registration AC+AH (I know this is far outside any rules but it's confirmed by several Flugbuch entries and photos). The last owner according to my files was I./FAG 101 at Großenhain in May 1944.

We have at last found the orginal WrkNr on the airframe we are restoring. During a test of the compleat wing set restord at Kjevik monted on the airframe. At this ocation there was found to be painted a WrkNr on the rudderpedals in the rear cocpit. These where dismantled from the airframe and have been lost until now. Se my flickr acount. This means we need info on the real WrkNr 1034.

Ar66C. I can add additional data.
Ar66C - WNr 234 - D-IGEL - Est Rechlin - 1935 & Est Travemunde - 07.36. FFS(See)Putnitz - 07.38 at Putnitz (Fb.Hertnagel)

Ar66C - WNr 1194 - No Unit/markings but the W/Nr 1194 was picked up by the Allied 'Y' Service radio intercepts dated 21.10.44 at Stade.

So WrkNr 1194 is may be from another Unit in europe with different equipment / trainer ?
