10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
2 Attachment(s)
Dear All,
Can someone assist with the surname of the pilot Hans, who might have flown with 10.(Jabo)/JG 2, fallen on 3 April 1943, as per the attached photos? Buried at the soldiers cemetery at Abeville, France. Regards, Sinisa |
Re: 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
Don't have my book on Jabos to hand but the answer should be there-if not 10/JG 2 it will be IV/SKG 10

Re: 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
From Chris' book there was no loss of 10./JG 2 or SKG 10 on 3 April 1943.
There was one Jabo pilot killed, Uffz Fritz Ebert of 10.(J)/JG 54. His Fw 190 A-5 WNr 0835 Black 11 was shot down by AA fire off Eastbourne at 1145 hrs. |
Re: 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
Sidney,
why do you declare this pilot a Jabo-pilot? This was most probably Uffz. Hans Hieß from 6./JG26 who was killed on 3.Apr.43 and the photo shows a belly landing during his training with 2./JGr.West. |
Re: 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
hello Sinisa,
Is there any unknown emblem on this Fw190 cowling? Looks like a Flamingo ... Regards, Franck. |

10.(Jabo)/JG 2 (#35 in Luftwaffe Emblems 1939-1945 [2012], Barry Ketley)

Re: 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
Hi,
Looks to be the 10.(Jabo)/J.G. 2 emblem to me, while the code style is that of J.Gr. West, so presumably a hand-me-down FW 190. Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com |

Re: 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
I thought that Abbeville was away from 10/JG 2's more usual Caen area of operations

Re: 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 pilot
Gentlemen, thank you for your replies, which are highly valued.
Post No.4: Merlin, my primary area of interest is the Luftwaffe fighter arm emblems. The apparently 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 emblem on the engine cowling, only the second example sported on the Fw 190 A aircraft that I have come across thus far, prompted me to make the inquiry. Having said that the pilot might have flown with 10.(Jabo)/JG 2, I did not necessarily declared the pilot had definitively belonged to that unit. After all, the only lead that I had was the barely visible emblem on the engine cowling. Thank you, I believe that the query is answered. If I may summarise.... A hand-down Fw 190 A from 10.(Jabo)/JG 2, on strength of 2./JGr.West, pilot Uffz. Hans Hieß, who was later killed on 3 April 1943 while with 6./JG 26, and buried at Abeville soldiers cemetery. Regards, Sinisa |
