Interesting request.

There is Unteroffizier Heinz Haug, 8. Staffel, II./JG 4, who went missing in the St. Vith area that day.

Neither in the Gen. Q. Master reports, nor in Eric Mombeek's book, this name is mentioned for 23rd December 1944.

What do you think about a misspelling ?. His real name could be (double-name) Heinz-Gerhard Haug.

Re: Help needed for German hand writing

Hello,

If i look to the handwritten n in Hank and Ergolding it is no u for me In this time mostly by an u they done a stripe - over the u for make the difference n to u ( Another thing is by an ü sometime People done a - over the u inplace two Points) If i look further to the g in Ergolding it is not a k like in the name Hank. Maybe it is Hauk? So the writer wrote a wrong name or People later" translated " / describt the Name wrong, have never Seen an Original paper with the Name Haug so i can not say.

Re: Help needed for German hand writing

Hello,

according to the VBL (LH176) his name was Heinz Haug (born 18.04.1923).

His a/c was Fw 190 A-8/R2, Werknummer 682 659, "blaue 17".

"Oblt. Diesem" may be Oblt. Rudolf Diesem, 7./JG 1, MIA since 05.12.1944.

Re: Help needed for German hand writing

According to Manfred Kudell, there was a flight student in his training group with the name of "Teddy" Haug. Kudell started his flight training in group 11²/43 in early November 1943 with FFDS A 121 in Ergolding. I couldn't find a flight log entry for Haug to confirm his name though.

The condition/damage of the backside of this photo is similar to photos that were sold on ebay in early 2014. It was a group of photos belonging to a member of FFDS A 121, JG 103 and JG 4, among them also photos of Kudell.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hello, all

The loss of Uffz. Haug is listed in the GenQu6Abt loss list of January 20th 1945 as follows:

http://www.aviationhistory.no/ref_db...?lossid=127526

No big mystery - it is of course possible that the spelling of his last name is wrong.

Andreas B

Hi Andreas,

I don't know - this guy is listed in the VBL, but scratched out. As he is not listed in the VdK database, I assume he was not found and declared as dead (or is buried as unknown).

Re: Help needed for German hand writing

Thank you friends for these information : Difficult to understand..

So according to different sources:

Gerhard Hank 1943 missing since 23. December 1944 8./JG 4 ( ???)

I do not find any info about that pilot.

Uffz Heinz Haug, 8. Staffel, II./JG 4, went missing 23. December 1944.

Uffz. Haug is listed in the GenQu6Abt loss list of January 20th 1945

So :

1 : Two different pilot named Uffz. Heinz Haug ?

2 : Name and the date are both wrong on the back of this picture ?

Thank you very much indeed to all !
Phil.

Re: Help needed for German hand writing

Hello, all

I think one must find a full name for him.

Heinz is often a short version of Heinrich, and we definitely have a lot of double first name possibilities:

Gerhard Heinrich

Heinrich Gerhard

Heinz Gerhard

and so on...

My initial response was for the message by Horst Weber where he mentions that the information is missing from the GenQu listings, I just showed that it is in the report dated 20.01.1945.

Andreas B

Re: Help needed for German hand writing

That photo was definitely one of those on ebay.
All other names that Kudell told me were reliable, so I would go with Haug.

Kind regards,
Daniel
