141sqn Defiants
For such simple and "generic" search terms, I can't find pictures of 141SQN Defiants. 264SQN were clearly the "media darlings".... can anyone help restore the balance a little?
Thanks in advance. |
Re: 141sqn Defiants
There isn't even one in The Defiant File by Alex Brew (Air Britain Publications)!

Re: 141sqn Defiants
Hello,
You will find a rare photograph of a No.141 Sqn Defiant (L7000:TW-P), on p.113 of the 1st edition of Flintham & Thomas' Combat Codes. The shot is reproduced on p.133 of the 2nd edition, of the same work. Col. |

Re: 141sqn Defiants
Hello,
"Do you know of any others?" Yes! Take a look at: Allied Wings No.8 - Boulton Paul Defiant Part 1. Listemann,Phil H. & Andrew Thomas. n.p.,:Phil Listemann,2009. On page 28, you will find a photograph of 141 Sqn Defiant, TW-O (serial not mentioned/visible). Go to p.31 for a pleasant coloured 3-view of the aforementioned; L7000:TW-P. Col. |

Re: 141sqn Defiants
The Turret Fighters - Defiant and Roc by Alec Brew has at least 7 photos of 141 Sqn Defiants.

Re: 141sqn Defiants
Thankyou, though that's maybe a bit beyond what i'd like to spend on the subject matter :(
Does anyone have an opinion on: Camouflage & Markings: Boulton Paul Defiant. RAF Northern Europe 1936 -1945 Number. 8 by Robert C. Jones? |
Re: 141sqn Defiants
Well 45 years ago the series was regarded as ground-breaking stuff and has held its reputation well. There are no photos of 141Sqn.

Re: 141sqn Defiants
Thankyou for the fast reply :D
Terrifying..... so few squadrons used the type and a guide to their markings misses one out! I really have picked an awkward subject, haven't I? :D |
Re: 141sqn Defiants
Another reference though brief on 141 Sqn is the Scale Aircraft Monograph on Camouflage & Markings No 2 - The Battle for Britain May - Dec 1940 by Paul Lucas. This has a drawing of a 'green and brown' 141 Sqn Defiant with codes TW-H serial L7036 from June 1940. The fuselage roundel has a thin out yellow ring and also it says it had (possibly) sky blue under surfaces rather than the more usual duck egg green.

Re: 141sqn Defiants
Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 105 - Defiant, Blenheim & Havoc Aces, has a number of photos of 141 Sqn Defiants, including (from a quick look):
p.22 Defiant on ground with cluster of flight crews; p.33 Defiant in flight. Regards, ...geoff |
Re: 141sqn Defiants
Not exactly to the point but close and rarer still, I suspect: Wings Of Fame 11 has a photo of a 2 Sq Defiant, N15762 KO.I.

I found that easy in comparison: http://www.wartime-airfields.com/raf...-stories1.html
:D (Thanks for the new replies & info, all!) |
Re: 141sqn Defiants
Nice one, although I believe it was there for experimenting into its use for Army Cooperation work rather than as a hack, for which it would be most unsuitable.
This picture, and one of 141 Sq, are also in Phil Listemann's book on Defiant squadrons. |
Re: 141sqn Defiants
Given that the footage is ~75 years old, I might be a little late to the party but I found a Defiant gunners instructional video :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIIqY81T67E I know, not 141sqn-specific, but I found it really interesting! |
