Hallo!

Below are photos from Finnish SA-archive (http://sa-kuva.fi/webneologineng.html)

SA 50530
http://sa-kuva.fi/static/41/81/64181_r500.jpg

According the caption Ju 88 was shot down in flames 16.55 o'clock Finnish time after battle with Soviet fighters. Location is Terijoki* and the photo has been taken immediately after the incident.

I do not know anything about the Ju 88 at this moment. Haven't had time etc.

There are couple of interesting details:

There is some kind of inscription on nose:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/attach...1&d=1458770085

There is also something on the fin:

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/attach...1&d=1458769349

At first I thought it is some anomaly on the negative or so, but the scribble on fin can be seen on two different photos - SA-photo 50531 and 50532 - at least. Load the bigger version from the SA-kuva site to see yourselves.

Intermediate quality photos below:
SA 50531

SA 50532

If someone can solve this case, good. I would like to know more.

Thanks in advance and Happy Easter!

Kari

Highly unlikely as it was 100% on 21 Sep 41

Lt. Otto von Ballasko (in NVM ) - but GQM has this clear Pallaske or ....ko (unclear)

so this (eBay / Chris) pic appears be same plane (V4+CT) with his mission scoreboard, about 13 / 24 missions earlier!

2192 was made in July 40, delivered likely in about August 40 , so scoreboard on fin can be its war history for one year. UK BoB missions (round objects) first and then Soviet Front below. Goldspange emblen there too? Not expert on this. -Ed

Sorry, I didn't compare the tails, Chris but, also, picture, show a plane with a pretty dirty belly.

100 % is given, but plane seems not overly damaged,a bit "salty" maybe Wonder why if the finns, took picture the same day or the day after, crew was quoted first as MIA..

Hallo!

Marvellous, gentlemen. Thank You all, especially Chris and Slayer for the additional photo of V4+CT.

Finnish 12 DE (12. Division HQ) diary writes that Kronstadt (not far away) was bombed Sep 21, 1941 and an air battle was fought over Kronstadt at time 16.20. Two engine plane landed at Ino (there was coastal fortress) beach. The crew of four was saved and sent forward to Army Corps HQ (IV AK).

One of the IV Army Corp AAA units has additional details about the plane.

II section 123. Light Anti-Aircraft Battery (II/123. Kev.It.Ptri) reported that 3 I-153 harassed "Do 215" which had to make emergency landing at sea near coast. The AAA unit did not open fire.

What was this Soviet fighter unit and is there more details available from Russian archives?

Cheers,
Kari

PS It looks like in the Finnish photos V4+CT has got fourth row of mission stars on fin to rear from the Flugspange emblem.

PS : I say also in #8 "that additional 13 - 24 mission symbols" are there,
because already noted additional row. Nice you noticed ...

Apologies that I overlooked your second input. You were the first to identify the loss. Thank You Ed from North. I really appreciate Your expertise of everything Ju 88.

Have a nice day,
Kari

PS I counted also the additional mission marks to be 13 or 14. I saw 10 or 11 rear of the Spange and 3 forward at the fourth, lowest row. It was late night and did not have the reading glasses nn so caveat.

Hello
a small a bit OT correction to Kari's message #11.
There had been a fort at Ino a short time between 1912 and May 1918, when the 12" turret battery and other military installations of the fort Ino were blown up by the russian garrison, gun's locks and some military equipment were evacuated to Kronstadt and the fort was seized by Finns. Finns were obliged to destroy all the rest of installations of the fort Ino under the conditions of the Tartu peace treaty of 1921.
