Crashlanded Me109G in Norway, 1944

2 Attachment(s)
Well...this bird is a mystery for me.

According to local sources this Me109G "10" made an emergency landing at Kragerö in southern Norway around autumn 1944. Judging from the photos it looks like a 10-20% damage landing. Perhaps the machine belonged to IV./JG 5?

I know of the mediocre status of loss reports from this time of the war, but perhaps one of you that are dissecting ULTRA-reports after Luftwaffe losses has stumbled across this incident?

Sorry about the long time frame (ca july - october 1944) and quality of photos.

Searching for any information regarding the Pilot, Wnr. and unit

I have also gone through various KM and Heer KTB's from the same time without finding any traces to the emergency landing.

Is this the best quality photos around? Of special interest, the pattern on the spinner.

Maybe one of them 30. July 1944 all Southcoast Norway - 11./JG 5 G 6 Lt. Heinz Salz, 11./JG 5 G 6, Uffz Johann Kwiotkowski, 12./ JG 5 G 6 Lt. Horst Mülling, 11./JG 5 G 6 Uffz Dieter Kreikemeier

Hello Peglar,
thank you for the suggestions!

Do you know the cause behind the losses? The plane most probably belly landed during a ferry flight, none of the eyewitnesses saw or heard any signs of aerial combat that day. According to the same witnesses the Pilot was not hurt in any way after the "landing". So, if these four are related to combat, I guess we are back to the starting point.

I can also add that I have been in contact with E. Mombeek about this incident without getting any further on solving it.

When interviewing Rudi Artner in the mid 90's on his list of losses/crashes for 30.7.44 for the whole of JG.5 are just the names already mentioned and nothing mentioned force landing wise.

Hello Andy,
thanks for the input. After checking the four names in the initial post, it seems that most of them were KIA on 30.07 and it also happened some distance from Kragerö.

The “black 10” was a Bf 109G-2, this version was flown by I./JG 5 until January 1944 and by IV./JG 5 until November 1944. Furthermore the IV./JG 5 left Norway around 5.09.44 to reinforce the elements of JG 5 in Finland.

The above facts are reducing the possibilities to IV. Gruppe and the time slot from July to early September. The monthly reports for the Gruppe are listing G-2 losses as follows: two by accidents in July and two by accidents in September. The first accident during September is dated 5.09.44, it happened most probably during the transfer to Finland and not at the Southcoast.

This leaves as possibilities only the two accidents from 6.07.44 and 20.07.44, for which no detailed data are available. The planes lost on 30.07.44 (mentioned in post #5) were all G-6 versions and the accident on 18.07.44 was from 12.Staffel and it’s pilot is reported missing.

Hello Gerhard,
thank you, this new information and the identification of subtype was most helpful.

This was in the August 44 and Stavanger is a long way from the proposed wheels up landing. The Americans had know joy that day apart from strafing a Junkers 52 on the deck if my memories correct.

I went through this database and sorted out some candidates based on status and unit (non-combat related losses and IV./JG 5)

29.09.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 21 01.10.1944
08.10.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 20 10.10.1944
08.10.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 20 14.10.1944
25.11.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 22 27.11.1944
11.11.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 22 13.11.1944
30.10.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 22 02.11.1944
18.10.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 23 23.10.1944
30.11.1944 IV./J.G 5 1 23 02.12.1944
01.12.1944 IV./J.G.5 1 23 04.12.1944

Anyone with some more information about these cases, so it's possible to minimize the list of possible matches with this crash?

I'm still in the dark with this case. As "Merlin" indicated in his post from august 16th 2016, the time slot for this accident is probably between july and september (1944).

Could it have been one of the machines belonging to either JG 1 or JG 11 operating in Denmark?

There is a good chance that this machine experienced some action in the high north. Has anyone come across pictures of "Black 10" from either Northern Norway or Finland from around 43/44?

I have came across several status reports for Me109s with Wnr. under repair at the Brinker Eisenwerke in Norway between august and october 1944. There is a big chance that the damaged G-2 I'm searching for went to Brinker as it was one of the main Frontreperaturbetriebe in Norway at that time and that this particular bird are on these lists.

Anyone with further information that can help me exclude certain Wnr. from the list of probable candidates?
