Code ?

Remains of the a/c were found by Allied force in September(?) 1944.

Bonjour,
Thank you for all your information !! Very very important for me.
Why ? I am searching for all informations about D-520 SV+GB discovered on Grimbergen a/f (?)(Belgium). To confirm this location I found a photo showing this a/c with remains of the, Ju 88 S-3, 330716 and B-17 (44-8258) of the 401 BG.
And very good contacts speak about « Melsbroek A/fd, Bel » (please see
« http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=45414).
So, 3 remains must give me a confirmation of the airfield ... I hope so.
Merci for all your help.
Phil.

Strange that the NVM says missing and it apparently turns up on a German airfield? If lost to a night fighter, all the losses that night were over Normandy????

I wonder if the aircraft was damaged in 'Luftkampf mit Nachtjager' crashed on return and the wreckage found later and bought to Melsbroek ? Assume the wounded Bf would have given some account of the cause . Is it known if the other three crewmen are still missing or found with the wreckage . If coming down by a German airfield seems strange if they are still shown as missing as shown in LG 1 history.

Indeed, Tagon ".. LG 1" says "Ziele St. Ló" on 330716
so likely not that plane.

Is there a chance this was Ju 88 S-3 330715 L1+AH
crashed at Fl.Pl. Brüssel (Bruxelles)-Melsbröck 05.09.44
(Salonen NVM)

To me serials may appear similar if photo is not clear enough -Ed

I have the NVM and it adds nothing more than what Matti stated-location unknown

So difficulties …
D-520 (SV+GB) : located in Grimbergen (or nearby) airfield 1944.
B-17 (44-8258) : disovered on Melsbroek airdrom ???
And a photo showing this 2 a/c in the same area … possibly one of them was transfered … Or error with Allied archives wich probaly confused.
My searches are always going bad.. .that gives life interesting
Thanks of all
Phil.

The Junkers is Ju 88S-3 WNr. 330718 Z6+AB from Stab I./KG 66, found destroyed at Grimbergen in September 1944.

Statement "is" is interesting. Does not look KG 66ish camouflage.
Some one have close up of that tail? -Ed

Hi,
Sorry, I gave the detailed photo last year to a contact
as I never keep document not directly in "my" area, or field of history.
It seems The tail of the JU-88 to be dark (greys ?).
