New Book - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
I am delighted to announce the release of a new book called "Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland".
The story of German air crashes over neutral Ireland 1940 - 1945. A major new work on Ireland’s Second World War history hits the bookshelves on October 26th this year. ‘Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland’ , written by Justin Horgan and Paddy Cummins (publishers www.horganpress.com) traces the relationship between neutral Ireland and Luftwaffe crews downed here during the Second World War. More than 20 years of research brings to life the activities of the Luftwaffe over Ireland. The writers use the crashes on neutral territory to inform readers how Ireland became a bolt-hole for German flyers in trouble. The Luftwaffe’s own battles with the Royal Air Force in the skies around Ireland resulted in many crash or forced landings and the sometimes heavy price crews paid as they tried to find safe landing sites in Ireland. The book traces the events surrounding these crashes, the response of local people to these landings in their midst and the extensive efforts to save crew members. The book includes interviews with many of the surviving crews from that period and produces a fascinating military and social history of that time. It includes stories of the downed crews’ amazing time at Curragh Camp, honour bound to return after being allowed out to cinemas and local hostelries. The book also examines the relationship between the crews and the local people, the marriages and the deep bonds that were created for these young Germans with Ireland for the rest of their lives. http://www.horganpress.com/uploads/8...1_i1_w160.jpeg |

A must have! - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
Hello to all,
interested in airwar over Ireland and UK. Yesterday I got the long awaited copy of this incredible book. The stories are very well researched and the book contains numerous colour pictures with so much detail. Original maps, rare seen artefacts, portraits, ... It's a pleasure to read the stories in this high quality book. I am very happy. Congratulations to the author - Justin Horgan - for this superb work. |
Re: New Book - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
Hello Harry , thank you very much for your kind words about my book . It is such a pity that my co-author Paddy Cummins was not alive to see the book released .
Over twenty years of hard work went into this book and I am very proud of the finished book . Most of the photos are new and have not been seen before . Just like your wonderful book Harry it was interesting to see the material that both of us have on the crew of Gottfreid Berndt / Paul Stormer. I will gladly share material with you Harry if I can be of help in any way . |
Re: New Book - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
I just want to wish a Happy Christmas to all the members here who helped me finish our book over the last few years . Sadly my friend and co-author Paddy Cummins did not live to see the finished book but I am sure he would be proud as were his family . Again many thanks.

Re: New Book - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
Hello,
For those of you who are interested in such things: Just had confirmation of my purchase of a copy of "Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland". The total cost, including post & packaging to OZ, was AUS$86.54(breakdown was: book Euro35.00, p&p Euro18.00). To the best of my knowledge, the book has never been offered, commercially, in Australia. Col. |
Re: New Book - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
Hi Colin , thanks for ordering our book . It was posted out to you today and we hope you enjoy it . Due to the size of the book ( A4 , hard cover with dust jacket and almost 400 pages ) postage to you was not the cheapest but I am sure the book will be worth it .
We would love to have a distributor in Australia and we have already sent books " Down Under " but most of our first print run is now almost sold . If we do a reprint it is something we may consider . |
Re: New Book - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
Schnellmeyer,
Thanks for that. No sweat. The P & P was not unreasonable, in my opinion. Not when compared to what US suppliers charge. The US postal charges are exorbitant, I simply won't deal with them. I have had a chance to read through a copy of your book (bought by a friend), I was mightily impressed - hence the order! Col. |
Re: New Book - Luftwaffe Eagles Over Ireland
Hi Colin , thanks for your kind words about our book . It was a true labour of love for myself and the late Paddy Cummins . The most interesting part was meeting the Luftwaffe veterans that crashed in Ireland and hearing their stories . Thanks again for your order and enjoy .
Regards Justin Horgan |
