Fw 200 D-AB??
 

Hello,

Does anybody know where the following photo of a Fw 200 was taken? It appears to carry the civil registration D-ABB? or D-ABP?

Perhaps it is D-AABR as discussed on the TOCH here http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=23458 , and the LEMB link led to Pocking airfield.

The color photo appears to be showing a Fw200C of DLH (unarmed and except of the camoflage seems to have no military alterations), civil registry is most probabely D-AABR. Not much else is known of this particular a/c.

I can confirm this Lufthansa Condor was D-AABR, W.Nr. 0020, "Rheinland." It was reportedly a Fw 200 D-2 based on the military Fw 200 C-2 series.

That´s not correct. The civil registration could be changed very rarely - D-ACON was one of them. This Fw 200 only shares the name "Rheinland" with its predecessor at Deutsche Lufthansa.
This Fw 200 is part of a certain number of military machines re-built by DLH Berlin as passenger transports towards the end of the war. WNr is not known afaik; Picture was taken at Pocking a/f

0020 was F8+GL and fate below. I have a note that D-AABR had name "Buchsatbbendreher" painted on when found

D-ACWG- 0020 2/41 re-coded F8+GL when operated by 3./KG 40, Destroyed in RAF bombing raid 13/4/41 at Bordeaux-Merignac

Perhaps Buchstabendreher - scrambled letters (whatever that might have meant) - this is perhaps the inscription barely visible on the fuselage, over the port side wing.

I also remember Pocking stood in some kind of relationship to Ainring (airfield to serve Obersalzberg) when planes coming from there were parked and maintained.

The Ott & Wachtel book "Im Zeichen des Kranichs" is listing this aircraft as Fw200C-4 WNr. 0112 D-AAPB "Rheinland", delivered to Lufthansa in January 1945.

Obviously the registration below the wing is D-AABR.

There is also a reference to this Fw 200 in the Jet&Prop 6/92 article entitled Sie flogen bis zum bitteren Ende, pages 18-23. There, this aircraft, referred to as D-AARB "Rheinland" was said to have maintained flights towards the Nordraum (i.e., north-western Germany - Flensburg, Denmark and Norway) in the last weeks/months of the war.
