Bv138 losses in May 1944.
I have three losses by SAGr130 and another by SAGr125. The former lost to Wildcats of the Fleet Air Arm but the latter possibly to the VVS?

Re: Bv138 losses in May 1944.
Sorry very little. I had believed that the combats on 6 and 8 May were so similar that they were the same. Recent evidence proved otherwise. I believe they were all lost by 2.(F) /SAGr 130.

Re: Bv138 losses in May 1944.
Hi Bjørn
I can find no RAF Mosquito claims on 6th June for German flying boats off Norway. Can you inform me more about which Squadron they belongs to? More likely that this two Bv 138 was those claimed by Martlets of FAA 882 SQN, however I have no details of this attack. Regards Knut |

Re: Bv138 losses in May 1944.
In the KTB for Admiral Norwegen the following is mentioned for 6. May 1944:
08.04-08.30 Attack from 40-60 bombers and fighters against two southbound convoys in the sea area between Kristiansund town and the island of Gossen (which is Hustadvika) Three Luftwaffe aircraft were on escort duties for one of the convoys. Two BV 138 were shot down. 17.57 2 enemy aircraft carriers were observed together with one cruiser and 6 destroyers. 2.(F)/130 was stationed in Trondheim-Ilsvika seaplane station. It seems that there may be aircraft from the two carriers that attacked, and no Mosquitos this time, or ???? |

Re: Bv138 losses in May 1944.
It was Seaplanes post no 10 that led towards looking into the Naval and FAA info for the 6th May , just shows how working together on this Forum often produces the answers. I assume the death of Ff Oblt Werner Olbertz from 310121 was a 'declared death' as I could not find him on the 'Deutsche Flieger unter dem Nordlicht' listings
