Thanks Chris
Last irritating question - tried to translate Matti's last line and think it says that his aircraft crashed on return flight. Is that right? Rick |

As a non-German speaker, "Durchstarten" suggests after take-off to me, but per Walt Waiss in his KG 27 history, also says return.

Durchstarten is a go-around after a failed approach. So they tried to land, aborted landing at some point to go around, and then went into the ground.

Having thought about it more, I would hazard the guess that 'abgeschmiert' means they stalled on go around. It's clearly not a technical term, but to me it would indicate a sudden move straight into the ground.

Re: Information concerning the loss of Uffz. Hans Berger - killed 21.02.1941
Hello,
"Durchstarten" - It is a usual manoeuvre at the landing to resume speed and to be able to make a renewed landing. "abgeschmiert" - Under airman it is a other german word for crash. In this case the "Durchstarten" has not worked. Rgds, Kaczmarek |
