Hello,

I would like to share with you pictures of a group that I acquired.
It consist of award documents and photos belonging to a pilot Fw. Ludwig Schmidhuber a member of 6./SKG 210 and later 6./ZG 1.
He flew a Bf 110 C-6, S9+SP, 2249 which was shot down on a combat mission near the village Dobraya, 25km West from Mosalsk, by the AAA battery of Lt. Nury Karievich Kuliev of 3rd Battery of 342 Artillery Regiment on 27.02.42.
Both the pilot and his bordfunker Ogefr. Robert Kissler were KIA.

Picture 3 is of Schmidhuber with his awards.
Picture 4 is of his plane
Picture 5 and 6 shows the plane as a victim of the AAA battery together with either the pilot or the bordfunker.

Hope you like it :)

For reference, the village of До́брая (english: Dobraya) mentioned above is located in Kaluga Oblast, Russia, coordinates 54°25' N 34°35' E .

A look at the Russian personnel loss database suggests that Nury Karievich Kuliev may have died of wounds on 16 December 1943, while serving as a battery commander of the 723rd anti-aircraft regiment of the 15th anti-aircraft division of the 4th Ukrainian front. The record gives the name only as Captain Nury Kuliev (Нурий Кулиев), so it is not absolutely certain.

Question to the moderators: I attempted to send a private message to Voltaire45, but discovered that no such function is available. Does this mean that private messaging is not enabled immediately for new forum members?

Regards,

Paul

You are welcome, Kristjan!

Do you mind sending me a private message? There are a couple of slightly long-winded questions which I would like to ask you about Lt. Kuliev and do not want to bore other forum members with them:) You can send a message by left-clicking on my member name and selecting the message function.

Paul

Great to see a picture of your plaque John it looks nice.
Do you happen to know the history of these plaques, if they were made and presented during or after the war?
I can see that there is a stamp on the back of mine probably from the maker which reads "Gustav Becker, Schiffswappen, Wilhelmshaven".
By the way I am a big fan of your work.

Kristjan

They were made during the war and given to members of the unit. I got mine from Bordfunker Heinz Ludwig of 3./ZG 1. Not sure now whether he was with 3./SKG 210 - I think not, I believe he received it (from another member of the Staffel?) during the war.

Thank you very much for your kind comment in your last sentence - it is appreciated.

Kristjan,
Regarding the two awards shown at the bottom of the group of five. The one on the left signed in July 1941 is signed by the Geschwaderkommodore of SKG 210, Major Walter Storp. The one on the right signed in December 1941 is signed by the Gruppenkommandeur of II./SKG 210, Haputmann Rolf Kaldrack.

Hope this is of some interest to you.

Thank you John for the information on the unit plaques and the signatures on the award documents, it is very interesting.
The document having the signature of the Geschwaderkommodore Major Walter Storp has also a great looking stamp of the unit.

Kristjan
