Lufwaffe over England

There is Martin Middlebrook's book of BC raids; is there anything similar; book or other source ; for LW night raids over England for 1940-41 in particular?

BTW anyone know if luftwaffe-experten.org and lwag.org are still active?

The LW Experten board has been replaced by http://luftwaffe-research-group.org/index.php - about two years or more ago. If you remember your user credentials to the old board you may still be able to get in. The lwag.org still appears to be active, though I haven't been there in a dog's age.

There are number of titles that cover the 'Blitz', the best being 'The Blitz, Then & Now', all of 3 volumes. Others may have better suggestions.

...or my book The Luftwaffe's Blitz which covers the period to June 1941

Re: Lufwaffe over England

Alfred Price's "Blitz on Britain 1939-45", although that's about 40 years old now, I think. As usual he gave a lot of coverage to the technology used by both sides.

Then there are social histories like Angus Calder's "The People's War" and Juliet Gardner's "The Blitz". For anexample of the humour at the time, got to YouTube and find the song "The Deepest Shelter In Town" by Florence Desmond.

Re: Lufwaffe over England

Alfred's book was exactly 40 years old and a good starter but there have been better books since/new information

Hello
Balke, Ulf, Der luftkrieg in Europa: Die Operativen Einsätze des Kampfgeschwaders 2 im Zweiten Weltkrieg Teil I. Koblenz: Bernard & Graefe Verlag, 1989.
Is very good. It of course is mostly on KG 2 but gives a lot of general info on LW attacks.

Re: Lufwaffe over England

Balke's book is good if you can read German

Re: Lufwaffe over England

Thanks for all the replies. To be more specific, I am looking for something with raid info like Middlebrook's BC Diaries or better yet Boiten's Nachtjagd War Diaries.
Unfortunately I don't read German; might have managed French if I could remember it all!
Chris; does your book give numbers and possibly more details like which KG's were involved. I assume Luftflotte 3

Re: Lufwaffe over England

It does and where known Luftflotte 2 from 1 Nov 40 to 22 Jun 41

Re: Lufwaffe over England

Thanks! I'll get it and Alfred Price's. Should be a start.

Re: Lufwaffe over England

You will have to get a 2nd hand copy of Prices' book as it is long out of print

Re: Lufwaffe over England

in the Lela Presse BA series (Batailles Aériennes - Air Battles) Jean-Louis Roba has just started an overview of raids on the UK. This first volume of " LE BLITZ : La Luftwaffe sur les Îles Britaniques (1ére partie : du 1er janvier au 31 mars 1941) " covers the period 1 Jan to 31 March 1941. Great info and photos and artwork (Dekker). There's a pdf extract on the web site here

Thanks! That pdf looks great and will also revive my schoolboy French!

Re: Lufwaffe over England

Very surprised no one's mentioned the exemplary 3 volumes of After The Battle's The Blitz Then and Now! Admittedly, it's getting a bit long in the tooth, but the detail is extremely useful, on a day-by-day basis, with thousands of great rare photos.

Try:

Target Filton: The Two Luftwaffe Attacks in September 1940
Kenneth Wakefield

Angriff Westland: Three Battle of Britain Air Raids
Dilip Sarkar

Battle of Britain Day: 15 September 1940
& The Hardest Day: 18 August 1940
Dr Alfred Price

One Hurricane, One Raid: 31 August 1940
Geoff Rayner

Re: Lufwaffe over England

I believe that Mongoose is interested in Blitz/night raids which are not covered by these books

mongoose44 27th July 2017 03:37

Re: Lufwaffe over England

That's correct and just got Chris's and Price's books. The former looks very useful in particular and will keep me busy for a bit. Price is also interesting for other details.
