Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
These 2 photographs of wrecked Soviet aircraft came as part of a lot which was the former property of a KG 1 DKiG Bordfunker.
I appreciate there is not a great deal of detail to go on however, if anyone can identify either or even both of these, I really would be very grateful. Regards Richard. |
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
2th - it's Il-2
|
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
The acfts wrecks depicted are beyond any doubt IL-2 somewhere
in Germany or Poland by the end of 1944 or 1945 ( see the German DR oil cars destined for Brandenburg or Nuerenberg ) |

Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
With due respect, I doubt this would be Poland or Germany, especially in 1944, or 1945. Soviet AC red stars were not used without white outline in those late years, so this must be still in 1941 or 1942 somewhere in the Soviet Union with a German supply train.

Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
Agree with HGabor, especially as the first wreck looks like a Sukhoi Su-2 which has no place in 1944/45
|
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
1st - it's really Su-2
Il-2s - 1941-1942 - early |
Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
Thanks to all who have replied.
Sukhoi Su-2 and Il 2 it is then, and I am really pleased to of been able to positively identify them. As a point of interest I will re-scan, enlarge and re-post the destination sign of the DR oil car over the next few days. Thanks again, Richard. |
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
Gabro
If the 1st is a SU-2 then definitely year was 1941 or 1942 . |
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
Yes, these are Su-2 and IL-2 wrecks in the Soviet Union still in 1941 or 1942, most likely with a German military supply train.
Cheers, Gabor |
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
If we go by the owner of the photo from Luftflotte I the SU-2 originated from Baltics
or Stalingrad area Regiment ,though on Baltics there were no SU-2's, also looked into my numerous books on SU-2 trying to identify the paint, perhaps Richard could rescan the photo along with clearer DR car destination tag. There is a possibility that above SU-2 belonged to a Stalingrad Regiment possibly in 1942. I did scan you a page from my book as into your remark that the year in question was 41 or 42 . Alex K PS : Note that by 1943 several SU2 regiments still operated with no white outline on the star in addition the SU-2 was removed from active front duties by early 1944. |
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
Either-or, still in the Soviet Union.
|
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
My original statement indicated Soviet Union or Poland and that
still applies |
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
??? No. Your original statement indicated Poland or Germany by the end of 1944, or 1945. But never mind.
|
Re: Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
No,my revised statement once we spoke about SU2 states Stalingrad or Baltics, so as you say never mind !

Wrecked Soviet Aircraft
I finally got around to having another look at the photo with the rail car destination/information sign, the problem is the photo is actually not in very sharp focus.
Anyway, I have re-scanned the pertinent part (600 dpi, I tried 1200 dpi but it was just mush) however, with the image not being in focus I am not sure if anything can be gleaned to be honest. Regardless of that, thanks to all who have contributed and it is much appreciated. Regards Richard. |
