A Detailed Study of the Effects of Area Bombing on Lubeck
Dear colleagues,
for a small research project I am looking for a digiatal copy of above-named work of the United States Strategic Bombing Survey. I am aware of the fact that published versions of this are available at the Library of Congress and certainly also at NARA. But before I am going to order there, I thought it could be worth a try to find a more comfortable way by asking for help here in this brilliant board. Thanks and kind regards! Felix |

Hello Felix,
USSBS reports were numbered: can you tell us the number of this one please? Bruce |
Re: A Detailed Study of the Effects of Area Bombing on Lubeck
There is a cd version (or downloadable) version here. It is report E-38. 4.23 euros.

Re: A Detailed Study of the Effects of Area Bombing on Lubeck
Hello,
thanks for your help. Sadly, the ebook-version of this website is no longer available. Maybe due to copyright claims? I have to look for an other possibility to get a version. Nonetheless, thank you all very much! Felix |
Re: A Detailed Study of the Effects of Area Bombing on Lubeck
Felix - I can't imagine how it could be copyrighted since it's a U.S. Government publication and therefore falls within the public domain. You might try the U.S. Air Force Historical Research Agency (AFHRA) at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery/Alabama where you could ask for several titles on one CD/DVD for a total of $30.00, or try interlibrary loan as many university libraries have the full published set of the USSBS.

Re: A Detailed Study of the Effects of Area Bombing on Lubeck
Felix, Larry: there is another economical solution. A copy is held at the UK National Archives.
File ref = AIR 48/25, 'No.7: detailed study of the effects of area bombing on Lubeck, Germany'. Since I retired from file copying I send such matters to Lee at this address: https://www.arcre.com/ ... and I am sure he will be able to help at a very reasonable price. HTH Bruce |

Re: A Detailed Study of the Effects of Area Bombing on Lubeck
I though the USSBS files were in PDF on the Hyperwar website, but only a part of them are here, almost all on the Pacific theater:
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/NHC/...bing%20Survey/ There are three files on Japanese cities, roughly the same subject as for Lubeck, so you maybe use it for comparison. Such government files usually end on Amazon (with just a new cover page), but in your case no luck. I could still find some USBS reports, for about 10$ each. |
Re: A Detailed Study of the Effects of Area Bombing on Lubeck
I ran across this link which gives viewing access to a large number of the USSBS reports.
http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu...mbing%20Survey Unfortunately I could not find the Lubeck report, but I think the link is still useful. A couple of links on the page give a good overview. Toward the bottom of the page is a link called: "List of Reports": https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/100834224 If you click the link you get to the full listing of both the Pacific and European war reports. Not all of the reports are available on-line, but you can see how the reports were numbered and organised. Here is the link: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?...view=1up;seq=1 Back on the main page there are two other useful links toward the bottom of the page. Both are called "Reports", but the first is the Pacific War reports available for viewing and the second is the European War reports available for viewing. In the European listing you can see that report 38 (Lubeck) is not available here. |
