Since there is snow on top of the port wing and port elevator, it looks like a cold winter day in U.K. in 1941.

Best wishes !

Re: captured hurricane photo

Agreed. The snow on the wing (and tail?) doesn't point to the May campaign. The underside colour is neither the black, white nor Aluminium seen on Hurricanes at this time. The tall fin flash does suggest an early addition, but such errors were retained for some time.

Hi
many thanks for the pics, the new photo gives a code and the front view,
i think confirmation of nov/dec 40, maybe jan 41 or even april..ish 41 latest ?
due to the camo scheme

in the pic i linked is the fuselage code that of 605 sqn ?

anyone know the hurricane losses around about then ?

just need a serial to complete the story

cheers

Re: captured hurricane photo

"UP" Aft of the roundel with "M" shown forward of the roundel on both sides of the fuselage.
So Sqdn code would be "UP".

4, 222 and 605 Sqdns.

Just looked in FCL vol1, page 106
2 February 1941
605 Sqn
Hurricane II
Z2329
Sgt. K.H. Jones - Pow
Drifted over the North Sea( shot down ? ).
Landed on German airfield in error, set a/c on fire with Very pistol, Stalag Lift 6, Heydekrug.

A second 605 Sqn a/c was lost this day, Z2308 Sgt H.W. Pettit Shot down, drifted over North Sea, KNG.

Question
Could it be foam and not snow, as it seems to be under the a/c but no wheel tracks ?

Hi Alex
you beat me to it, just found pretty much the same online

To me it is Z2329 02 feb 1941 sgt jones

foam would make sense as the a/c certainly didn't burn out as mentioned in my link

cheers

Hi all,

is possible, that Sgt H.W. Pettit was shot down in combat with 1.(J)/LG 2 ? Only claim know to me is by Lt. Fritz Geisshardt ?
Geisshardt claim is sometime linked with Spitfire P7741 - pilot S/Ldr. E.J.C. Michelmore, which was KIA in combat - but I donīt know, if the time fit - Geishardt claim was 15:30 German time, but Biggin Hill Wing claim all victory about 13:55 UK time ….difference is 30 minutes or 1h and 30 minutes.

The wheels are chocked so doubt there would be tracks.

Hi, My earlier error regarding codes was due to finger trouble compounded by other factors...!!!! However on examination of the front views it would seem that it has the half black colour scheme which if correct would place it before before June / July 1940.. so for me the search goes on..

re #15
Got it from here..
https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/thread...des-why.22071/

"It was used from 1938 up until June 1940, half white half black, for observation of friendly aircraft from the ground. Remember that there was no country-wide ground control radar. Radar only worked looking out to sea, or at higher altitudes, initially only being placed on coastal sites . Tracking over the land, friendly or enemy, was down to the Observer Air Corps.

It was replaced by Sky undersides, but in November 1940 the black wing was reinstated."
