Photo LVG B.I
Hello,
Currently on ebay there is a photo of a crashed LVG B.I B.911/14 at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-Deutsch...sAAOSwPRtefe8O Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Clint
On the flip side, how do you read the date? Cheers Stig |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Hi Stig,
Feb '16, but the actual day, your guess is as good as mine. Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Yes, an interesting date....
I can see a 6 plus someting which looks like a "small half moon" and then Feb.16 just as you also say. I have put it down to the 6th (hopefully he just had a jumpy hand... :-) ) Cheers Stig |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
I'm also intrigued by the location . This item from the same seller:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-Feldflu...sAAOSw33Fefey3 has Lyskowize, but I assume that it is actually Laskowice as included in the description of all the items or in German Leskowitz, so odd spelling variation in the link above. This might possibly open the possibility of the aircraft being from a training unit FEA 11 at Brieg which was near Leskowitz, However the captured Russian Morane Saulnier L suggests otherwise and I wonder if its not Lyskow in present day Belarus and the aircraft shown are from a combat unit. Hopefully the seller posts more items from this collection, which I expect because in the description he sys that the photos come from a soldier with Jasta 26 and we've seen no Js 26 aircraft yet. Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Hello,
Currently on ebay is an image of LVG B.I B.279/13 of FEA 10 at: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RPPC-WW-1-O...IAAOSwjqxedhoi Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Interesting flip side text
Shows how someone with "good ideas" can trick people back home. It has also been sold before, but then as a crash at Böblingen 1915. That fits a lot better with FEA 10 and certainly without any "sneaky" US fliers hangin' around... :) Cheers Stig |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Hi Stig,
Do you know, I hadn't actually read the back of the card! I have FEA 10 as the operator from Propellerblatt 28 P.54. I guess its the identical photo there, though I haven't checked. I just have it on my excel spreadsheet which I use to check I 'm not posting an image I've posted before or a reprint, not with complete success as you've seen! Regards, Clint |

Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of an early LVG B.I at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-2-Deuts...AAAOSwVpRe4dRY https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-1-Deuts...oAAOSwbqle4dTs The machine appears to have no B before the 38 and is possibly wearing a flying school number rather than a serial number. Re: Photo LVG B.I
Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of LVG B.I B.112/15(?) at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-Fl...kAAOSwtsNfYOZ~ I have some doubt about whether this is a Bestellnummer rather than a flying school assigned number, if it is a Bestellnummer then it is a previously unknown serial. It could perhaps be a previous Bavarian air force number, transferred over to look like a Bestellnummer which did happen. Indeed this machines markings resemble a number of Bavarian LVG B.I (Ot) in Aeronaut's LVG Aircraft of World War One Vol.1.In any event an interesting (to me anyway :) ) photo. Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Indeed Clint
Very interesting. Can't recall an odd fin marking like that. Cheers Stig |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Stig,
There are a few Bavrian LVG B.I with the number on a white rectangle, especially LVG B.I (Ot) aircraft and a simialar marking on the fuselage at least on a Pfalz in Jack herris volume on Pfalz aircraft, so I wonder if the serial on a white rectangle was the standard form og marking for Bavarian aircraft before joining the Idflieg system. It would be nice to have a list of Bavarian aircraft serials in order to track down other machines to see if the same styling appears elsewhere. As you're in Munich.... :) I wonder if such a list has already been published somewhere, Bavarian related documentation appears to have survived somewhat better than its Reich equivalent. Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo LVG B.I
Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of LVG B.I B.906/14 of FEA 10 following a crash at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/8R-Doppeldec...4AAOSwh4BgLuuL The same aircraft can still be seen in post #15 of this thread (still viewable). Not sure if its the same incident of the aircraft was just 'much crashed', in any event it provides me with the opportunity to correct the unit as given in post #15 (hopefully I just missed the 0 because the location and unit are obvious). Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo LVG B.I
Quite an interesting comparison Clint
If it is the same incident, the postcard from your post 15 is stamped 12 Mai 16, while the postcard from the present post states this incident happened 12 Juni 1916. The latter postcard itself is not stamped, only the envelope it was inside (date looks like 27.8.17, which makes it a bit irrelevant). Now if a postcard is dated 12 May, the first incident must have been some time before that since I cannot believe a photo was taken, negs rushed to the printer, postcard made and sent off the same day. So it looks like two incidents, similar fashion.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Photo LVG B.I
Hello,
Currently on ebay is what I believe is a LVG B.I 565/14, https://www.ebay.de/itm/286101355058...MAAOSwQQ5nCAeu although given I have not seen any other LVG B.I in this range, the nearest definite being B.571/14,with a Rumpler B.I serial (correct?) at 567/14. Starting to wonder if the latter is correct. The seller has other WW.I photos here https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_dkr=...01%20weltkrieg I believe I see a number on the fuselage of the Taube. Anyone have any ideas? Also from the same seller a FEA 5 photoalbum https://www.ebay.de/itm/276677074913...MAAOSwXyNnBjoa Regards, Clint |
