KG 54 first EKII of the war - date?

Good night to all.

Does anyone do have Radtke, Siegfried (1990). Kampfgeschwader 54 von der Ju52 zur Me 262, Eine Chronik nach Kriegstagebüchern, Dokumenten und Berichten 1935-1945. Schild Verlag München. ISBN 978-3880140981?

Is there any information about DATE and names regarding the first EKII attributed or granted to members of KG 54 on that book?

I would like to know when (DATE) and to whom those first awards were granted.

I have a copy of the book but there is only a list of the Knight's Cross recipients and one of the DKG & DKS recipients in annex.

I am afraid impossible to say as EK II were so plentiful unless recorded in a diary and even then there would have been more than one awarded at the same time

hello adriano,

I would try a request here:

Quote:

Documents on the awarding of medals and individual decoration proposals can be found in the following fonds of the military archive:
RH 7 OKH / Heerespersonalamt (Army Personnel Office)
RW 59 - Personalverwaltende Stellen der Wehrmacht (Personnel Management Bodies of the Wehrmacht)
The awards lists document the presentation of the Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) and the Military Service Cross (Kriegsverdienstkreuz). Only a relatively small amount of the documents have been lost. However, the following Iron Cross awards lists have been lost as a result of outsourcing: from the Polish, Norwegian, Western and Balkan campaigns and from the Eastern campaign of the Infantry Divisions 1 to 132 until the summer of 1943.

MARC, fantastic discovering (for me at least), of this File held at the Bundesarchiv. Will try to inquire there, if possible.

CHRIS: My question was about the very first EKII...they certainly may have been celebrated at least...and the crew recorded. Off course, during the war, to record each EKII would be impossible, I do agree. But somehow, the first awards may have occurred during the Polish Campaign or very soon after...my question was to whom and the date?

I do have a photograph showing this cerimony...however no date and no crew names reported...so no clues....it is only written the first EKII and KG 54.

Hi,

it was on 18.9.39 at airfield in Neukuhren. I have some photos of these in a photoalbum of member of 2./KG54 and I think first EKIIs were handed over to the wounded airmen that crashed on landing on 10.9.39.

Regards

Robert

ROBERT, viele Danke! Would you have the names of the wounded airmen? Or more information about them?

Hi Adriano,

Poor resolution indeed! As far as I can see the capture reads "Unsere Luft???? (Lufthelden????) werden ausgezeichnet mit dem E.K.2"

There is no mention if this is indeed the FIRST EK II awarded in the KG 54 as a Geschwader or the FIRST EK II in a specific Staffel or Gruppe.

FYI: if I'm not mistaken I remember seeing an entry in a FB of KG 54 that said that in Mai 1940 after 10 combat missions the EK II was awarded.

Hallo Rudi,

Sorry about the poor resolution....did not remember by heart how many pixels was the maximum for JPEG images here...so I saved around 100 dpi.

Regarding the information about the very first EKII to KG 54 airmen, it was the seller who informed that onto the "selling list"...so I was indeed totally blind about which Staffeln, period, frame of time or airfield...no name behind as you can see....

Nice information about the number of missions that "automatically" (or not) gave credit to the EKII in Mai 1940.

Sorry about the quality of the image, really...I wish we could upload more and see more.
