thanks! - looking forward to it. Just finished your 'Knights of the Battle of Britain' - nice book! How do they get their own blurb wrong though ?

Thanks Neil. I too sometimes wonder how they do get things so wrong-the latest Channel 5 documentary is proof enough!

At last:

Actually 285 pages and I have just spent a day proof reading the PDF so as soon as I get a date, I will tell you all

But why the cover photo iż from MTO?

Chris Goss 14th August 2020 09:18

Re: Luftwaffe Aces in the Battle of Britain

Because the St Kap 2nd from left us in the book. I did mention this to P&S and as we say never judge a book by its cover!

Re: Luftwaffe Aces in the Battle of Britain

But you know that people will buy it on-line so BoB and MTO together will cause some doubts...

Chris Goss 14th August 2020 10:30

Re: Luftwaffe Aces in the Battle of Britain

I am not overly concerned as it doesn't say MTO on the cover and the cover is illustrative of fighter pilots (all of whom did fly in the BofB) and the aircraft they flew. In the book, the subsequent careers and fates of the 204 pilots are detailed so it covers all Fronts

Re: Luftwaffe Aces in the Battle of Britain

I am sure that among those interested in the book (which certainly is quite a few), not a single person will refrain from buying it when (and if!) when he/she finds out that the front cover photo is not taken in France. I like the cover - it depicts Luftwaffe fighter pilots, and the book is about Luftwaffe pilots.

Re: Luftwaffe Aces in the Battle of Britain

Precisely Christer! Only hope it lives up to expectations. Like my RK book, it came as a surprise how many were successful but also how many were forgotten

Hi,

nice. But I`m still not understanding when there is a plenty of photos taken during BoB...

Regards

Robert

After reading 4 PDFs and going word blind as a result, book goes to printers today or tomorrow. I will keep all who are interested in the picture as to when it is out

Received my copy this morning Chris.

Nice looking book, format and plenty of photographs.

Looks great on the shelf next to 'Knights of the Battle of Britain'.

Thanks for the acknowledgement!

All the best,

David

Re: Luftwaffe Aces in the Battle of Britain

Thanks David. At least your comments do not accord with the first reviewer on Amazon who, amongst other things, only criticized it saying all the photos had been seen before (really!!??) and the information was readily available (so why has it taken 80 years to produce one book listing all with bios and photos of all but 10 or so......). Enough to want to make you pack it all in

Armchair Critics!

5am starts to get to the archives, or see 2-3 veterans in a day. Over-nights stops or days away from the family researching in this country, or a week or two travelling around Europe.

Constant letters or emails to other authors/enthusiasts requesting information/photographs.

However, always worth it when you see it in print and hold a copy in your hand.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You'll never please all of the people all of the time and remember, no-one will ever write a definitive history! New information etc will always reveal itself, sometimes days/weeks after publication

Good job, great book and a worthy addition to any enthusiast's collection!

David

Re: Luftwaffe Aces in the Battle of Britain

Thanks David-if you put your last sentence on Amazon that would counter his review even more!
