Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
For those interested, 90 photos (which will be cut down to 60), 36,000 words and 30 colour profiles delivered to Osprey yesterday. As soon as I have a publication date, I will inform all. I can now understand why very little has been written on this workhorse! Nobody had time to take photos and much of the technical material especially for the night fighter and Hs 293/Fritz X launchers were ordered to be destroyed at the end of the war

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Too bad. It's an nice plane. Looking forward to read your book anyway!

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Count me among those interested as well. Will there be a big (Crecy; as with the Do 17 and Fw 200) book to follow on the Do 217?

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Marcel: But as you well know, you will be disappointed from a I./KG 66 perspective!
|
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Great news, I was hoping you will do the Do 217 next.
|
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Alfred: Osprey book will be scraping the surface of an oft forgotten aircraft with an effective operational career of just 3 years. Never used in any great numbers on the Eastern Front where it was used extensively for night recce

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Just received PDFs this morning so checking it again. As soon as I have a positive date, I will inform via 12 OCH

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Hi Chris. Will there be much in the way of NJG units in this work?
|
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
There will but limited. Few photos (just ask Theo Boiten!) and hard to match claims to pilots flying the Do 217 without logbooks (for example, II./NJG 101 flew a mixture of Ju 88s and Do 217s and pilots flipped back and forth). Similar are the Nachtaufklstaffel hence my post. Crecy big book hopes to have more on both roles but it is hard. Bombers of KG 2, II./KG 40 and KG 100 are well covered

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Thank-you Chris.

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Thanks to a global shortage of paper (and other things), delivery has now slipped to mid/end of April earliest
|
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Bad news I am afraid:
they (printers) have had an issue with getting the paper for the book, we sent the book weeks ago and they did not tell us until last week. This issue has held the book up, we were expecting it into the warehouse over the next week or so. This delay means that they hope to have it with us for May 24th. |
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Will there be a chance the E-book is published earlier?
Regards, Timon P.S. Last month I bought your book from 2020 so I am still good :-) |
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
I would be surprised if the e-book comes out before hard copy but not up to me!

Ju 188 next?! |
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Many other publishers are having problems. Not Ju 188 but Ju 88 day fighter operations and the early development of the Ju 88 as a fighter

In France Aerojournal put out an editorial explaining that the magazine is now printed on re-cycled (matte) paper since it was proving virtually impossible to get hold of the usual glossy quality material... |

Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Latest update today:
Unfortunately the printers who have the job ran out of paper due to extreme paper shortages at the moment, they did not tell us until we were expecting the books into the warehouse as they probably knew if we were aware of the situation we would have gone elsewhere. The books are confirmed to be in our warehouse on May 24th, it can take a day or so for the books to start going out depending on what time the delivery comes in. Sorry again for this but the situation was out of our hands unfortunately, this is a bit of a crisis for all printers right now which is why publishers are facing price increases for paper of 60%. I hope things start to turn around but it doesn’t look likely just yet. |
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
Thanks Chris. Not sure what that means exactly A 'limited' print run will be available from May 24th...or no books at all ?
|
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
maybe its right time to start selling ebooks - no problems with printig companies, paper sortage, higher prices etc.
|
Re: Do 217 Combat Units of WW2
My company publishes fiction books. In the U.S., there is a paper shortage but that does not mean no paper. The various printers we work with have paper allotments sent to them. Sometimes,
a paper mill closes, further complicating the situation. We were able to find a new printer that gave us the smaller part of the total print run we requested in less time than average, at least for now. That was a few weeks ago. The remainder of the books will arrive tomorrow, I just learned. Two weeks ahead of the initial estimate. As I understand it, the situation in Europe is similar. On the other hand, we were able to get reprints of some titles when we needed them because the orders were put in months ago. Best, Ed |

The issue for publishers is this: $20.00 for a printed book or $2.98 for an ebook. What do those involved, from writers to artists to graphic designers, get paid? Best, Ed |
