Hi,
In the photo is Lt.NEBEL from 9.Staffel JG 26. He was a member of this unit in the spring of 1941.
Please, does anyone know the first name of this pilot and does anyone have more information about this pilot.
Thank you very much for any information.

De ZENG and All., do have 2 other NEBEL but certainly not related too..(an Obstlt in 1941 or another membef of the Aufkl.Gr. Ob.d.L).

So, it is PROBABLE that this is your man....He may have served earlier Mid 40 with JG 26 being late transferred to JG 51...OR "your" man is another NEBEL not reported so far....

Thank you Adriano for the quick reply. Yes, I know about this pilot - the possibility that he is the same pilot exists.

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

Hallo Tonda75.

Glad you were already familiar. So...He may even have survived WW2 (apparently)....

What is unknown, though, is his early training and first assignment...Have you tried to find relatives in Germany?

MAYBE a Flugbuch is preserved and can solve this early period of his career....A nice photo by the way. Congratulations...

Keep us informed if more is found.

A.

For more sure it should be asked Nick Hector. He had interviewed pointed at the beginning Karl-Heinz Nebel, so probably he may recognize is he on photo or not.
More info is here:

Don't forget that Larry & Doug's list tends to be Oblt & above as there were too many Lts.

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

Hello Matti,
in VOLKSBUND (grave search), I did not find his name.
Can I ask you for his date and place of birth? He died in hospital, was it the same day that the accident occurred?
Thank you very much!
best regards Tony

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

Could be he was buried by his family and I believe that Matti is not allowed by WASt to give away DoB and place of birth

Attached the "death card" of WASt, which can be found at ancestry.de site (as other similar cards from WASt).

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

HenryNebel was in my friends 9/JG51. After the war he emigrated to Australia. There he became a well known builder of homes. He visited us in the 80's. There he was treated to Gunther Schack's energetic driving. When we arrived at our destination, he said "you're making aerobatics on the roads". He was too.

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

Off topic, I'm sorry.

A question to Matti;

"This Lt Nebel's EM was issued by 9./JG 26."

Is there any open source where you can determin what unit issued a certain EM?

Again, sorry for breaking in.

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

I have never seen any open source for the MOB-numbers, but I sincerely hope that WASt will include also this listing into the material they have started to scan and put available at least in their computer to be used in the researchers' room.
Of course it would be best to have all WASt material available open for public.

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

Also, Doug went through Caldwell's books on JG 26 with a fine-toothed comb and apparently didn't see Nebel's name. That's strange unless Nebel was enlisted (other ranks) back in 1940-41?

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

Hi,
D. Calwell's register of names is very incomplete. If any of the FF JG 26 did not have an air victory, did not die at JG 26, was not captured, or was not wounded, he did not have to get on this list.

Thanks, Tony. That gets Doug and yours truly off the hook for now, I guess.

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

There are several photographs of Lt. Nebel that prove his membership with the 9.Staffel JG 26. He has been with this unit for at least a few months, I have his photograph from the spring of 41, and also in the cabin of the Fw 190 A, which were deployed in the fall of 1941.

According to the Nick Hecktor it was Karl-Heinz Nebel living in, not Henry has lived Australia. Or may be it's a same name?

Happy to assist and confirm that the man in the image was not Karl-Heinz Nebel of 9./JG 51.

Gentlemen, thank you all once again for participating in this debate.

P.S.I am enclosing another photo of Hans Nebel at 9./JG 26.

Re: Lt.NEBEL 9./JG 26

Nebel was known as Henry, by messrs. Schack and Losigkeit, as well as those folks at the JG.51 reunions. By me too, excellent, though Aussie accented English. Many I've met were widely known by nicknames, for example, Schmidt and Schmitt were known as DT and TT.
