Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
A crowd-funding project has been set up by the co-authors Christoph Bergs (Military Aviation History) and Bernhard Kast (Military History Visualized). They announce:
We are excited to announce our new book Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber, offering an unprecedented look at the famous Junkers Ju 87 from World War 2. Supporters of this book can choose from a variety of exclusive offers and can actively help expand and improve the book by a series of stretch goals. http://stukabook.com Timon |

Click on the button confirming you want to leave YouTube and it'll take you to the site.

@edwest2
I think that is because I copied the link from YouTube... I have no idea why it does that. |
Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
Hmmm...................
A crowd sourcing plea to fund research for a book that probably less than 100 to 200 people worldwide have even the slightest interest in? Now that takes cojones. Never heard of using crowd sourcing for this purpose before. Good luck to the authors.:rolleyes::rolleyes: L. |

Good thought. Nevertheless, now 24 hours later and 72% of the funding goal has been reached. Don't forget this 'team' has published two books before via crowd funding. Moreover, they both have a YouTube channel which allows for a massive reach, the channels having respectively 280K and 653K subscribers. Kind regards, Timon |
Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
Yikes, Timon, who would have thought? They write outside my area of interest so I had never heard of them before. Very clever of them and I certainly wish them the best of luck. I did 90% of my Luftwaffe research in Washington, AFHRA at Maxwell AFB, USAMHI Carlisle, BNA London, BA-MA Freiburg, Zagreb, Ljubljana, and U.S. university research libraries up and down the East Coast, but all before 1998 when the age of the PC arrived. We had to pay for everything ourselves back then. And now it's possible to get others to pay for it.

Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
Yes, that is tough. Likewise, in general, studying at school has been made easier due to Google. No need to look everything up in the books anymore.
Luckily, I think you will be seen as a pioneer by many. Just like many others on this nice forum. The YouTubers can't say that of themselves. |
Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
Good luck! Topic is very interesting and realy unique

Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
156% of target achieved - looks like a great result already and hopefully we'll see more of these crowdfunders in the future. Well done chaps

Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
Larry,
I have been involved in a crowdfunding project and I check on others on a regular basis. It is truly amazing to see the results of some projects but others do not make their goal. Success is not guaranteed. A book about the X-20, Dyna-Soar was funded this way. Best, Ed |
Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
Surprising, Ed, surprising in that so much information is available on the internet now, but one never knows what bait will attract the fish and make them bite at any given moment: minnows, worms, frogs, a Mepps lure or an X-20.

Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
What is surprising to me is the erosion of copyright on the internet. People here asking for scans from this or that publication. Sorry, but I don't think people are automatically entitled.
Permission is required. The company I work for publishes fiction but I have found sites with complete books of ours ready for download. Of course, we send those sites take-down requests as the copyright holder. The X-20 was a very important part of history. It was based on the Saenger antipodal bomber and its mission was quite remarkable. Best, Ed |
Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
In general copyright should be sacrosanct, but then some academic journals charge like £30 for a 2-page online book review, they should be quartered alive.

Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
This is doing extremely well - they have raised about £40,000 sofar and are only about £4000 away from their final goal of the Chapter on the 37mm AT Gun.
|
Re: Stuka - The Doctrine of the German Dive-Bomber
How extensive would that chapter on the 37 mm gun be? 100 pages?
