GQM/NVM of Bf110G-4, Serial 440135, G9+OT NJG1; loss on 12.12.1944
Hi ,
I'm looking for the german GQM's recording / NVM showing the crash of the Bf110G-4, Serial 440135, G9+OT of the 9./NJG1; loss on 12.12.1944. Shot down from Pilot S/Ldr. Burbridge and Radar Operator F/Lt. Skelton, Mosquito ‘Z’ of the No. 85 Squadron RAF. This may be available under the following identifier: GQM (766/2, Ziff e); NVM (NJG1_III_093). Can someone make the report of GQM / NVM available to me? |

Perhaps it is better to indicate what kind of information you are looking for. NVM from WASt (now BAPA) are not freely available unless somebody wants to share copies.

Michael Balss has the night fighter NVM copies for sale.
Maybe he is willing to share one with you? He is also on Facebook. Regards, Timon |

Hello Matthias,
the GQM report is not available. From a correction on 28 Jan 1945 follows, that this loss was listed in the GQM loss return 9 Jan 1945 item 90 (Bf 110 G-4 WNr. 440135, the pilot Fhr Hans Apel was injured). GQM loss return 16 Mar 1945 item 85: 21.2.45 III./NJG 1 Feindflug, Absturz nach Luftkampf südwestlich Störmede, Bf 110 G-4 WNr. 5072, 100%. F Fhr Apel, Hans † Bf Uffz Trenk, Walter † Bs Hptm Zenker, Erich †. Regards Leo |

Leo
WNr 5072 is odd in this context. As per Petrick that WNr was an "old" F-2 Any idea which WNr it really could have been? Cheers Stig |

Hi Stig,
no, I have no idea about the correct Bf 110 G-4 Werknummer. Regards Leo |

Hi
My intention in this case is home research. The crash site on December 12, 1944 was in my neighborhood. I have the reports from the HW5 group on the crash, excerpts from the ORB of 85 Squadron, the Jet & Prop report on Visser (who is still buried in Marl - the city of the crash). I am aware of the later crash of the Apel crew. I didn't follow this one further because it's too far away from me. |

Could there have lingered and old F-2 which for some reason was used? Proficiency training perhaps? With all other aircraft thus being G-models maybe the compiler just wrote G-4 of old habit? Cheers Stig |

Maybe 5672?

Quote:
according to Martin W. Bowman "German Night Fighters Versus Bomber Command 1943-1945" on 21 Feb 1945 Fhr Apel flew no Bf 110 G-4. A quote from this book about the operations on 21/22 February: …Two 2nd TAF Mosquito crews claimed two more victims. East of Störmede airfield Squadron Leader Don A. MacFayden DFC on 406 'Lynx' Squadron RCAF in NF.XXX NT 325 destroyed a Bf 110 D of 9./NJG 1. Fähnrich Hans Apel and his funker, Unteroffizier Walter Trenck were killed …. Regards Leo |
Re: GQM/NVM of Bf110G-4, Serial 440135, G9+OT NJG1; loss on 12.12.1944
Sounds like a good alternative to me Norbert.
WNr 5671went to NJG 1 so why not 5672? Cheers Stig PS: Thanks everyone else. A drawback with the "answer notification system" is that I just get notified once, so I missed the other answers until now. Leo Bowman is good at writing plenty of books. His contents is however debatable.... Flying an even older Bf 110 D in 1945 sounds even more strange than a Bf 110 F |
