Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
Chris,
His full name was Stanley Inggolf Kvam. His USAAF NCO serial no. was T-190729. I do not know his officer serial number. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...y-inggolf-kvam Regards, Tom |
Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
It seems the middle (first?) name should be spelled Ingolf.

Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
Also, is Ingolf Kvam hyphenated as Ingolf-Kvam or not? It's a rather uncommon name with origins that are difficult to trace (at least for me).

Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
Having hopefully tracked down his son, it appears the family name is Kvam which the combat report says S I Kvam as opposed to S I-Kvam

Ingolf is an ancient nordic name probably dating back to the bronze age. Ing refers to the deity and olf is a short form for wolf I have never come across the name with a double g. Kvam sounds very Norwegian to me and may indicate the person had his ancestry there. Cheers Stig |
Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
In this article from the Nashua (Iowa) Reporter 11 march 1942 Stanley Kvam is being described as in the RCAF, stationed at Bowden, Alberta. I believe the BCATP had a base there.
See: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/5875...shua-reporter/ Also see https://www.newspapers.com/clip/32295587/the-courier/ with article about his wedding, further (family) background and preliminary military training in the USA. Regards, Leendert |
Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
Thanks, Stig.
"Ingolf" was right over my head.............no clue. "Kvam" left me with fleeting suspicions that it might be Norwegian or possibly an old Russian name dating back 1,000 years or more. L. deZ. |

Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
Chris
Since our late friend Frank Olynyk listed it as 30 April, can I assume it was a night claim, ie 29/30? Cheers Stig |
Re: 1/Lt S I Kvam 406 Sqn
That’s correct. One of four claims that night during attack on Plymouth which included Fritz X launches
