Hi!

Lt. Berthold Korts (113 vic., RK) was at that time (summer 1943) St.K. 9./JG 52. He was killed in combat with P-39 on 29.08.1943 near Amwrossijewka, together with his Katschmarek Uffz. Hans-Otto Müller.

Obfw. Karl Munz (60-62 vic., RK) served in Stab I./JG 52. On 20.08.1943. he was wounded and baled out of his Bf 109 after combat with Yak-1.

Uffz. Horst Timme (14 vic.) - MiA 28.08.1943. after combat with P-39.
Lt. Hans-Werner von Rudloff (10 vic.) - MiA 01.04.1944.
Lt. Werner Puls (27 vic.) - KiA 17.08.1943. in combat with LaGG-3.
Oblt. Herbert Planer (16 vic.) - KiA 23.12.1944 (in JG 11).
Fw. Hans-J. Merkle (30 vic., DKG) - KiA 01.08.1943 (rammed?).
Fw. Alfred Lehmann (20 vic.) - KiA 11.07.1943.
Uffz. Kurt Komorowski (5 vic.) - KiC 30.07.1943 after combat.
Lt. Herbert Fränzl (31vic.) - KiA 27.09.1944 (in JG 11 due to own Flak).
Uffz. Ludwig Buchheit (13 vic.) - KiA 09.08.1944 (by Flak).
Uffz. Gustav Ahlbrand (14 vic.) - MiA 22.08.1943.

Hope this helps.

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

Many thanks,

All three of these answers are very helpful...

In fact, with the Gruppe or Staffel, I'm mainly trying to determine to which operations/battles can be attributed their losses (definitive or temporary), and details are useful to see whether they were experienced pilots or not...

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

Hi guys

I was interested to learn that Fw Gerhard Juengel of 1/JG52 was interned in Turkey on 25/7/43. For how long was he interned? I assume other Lw personnel were interned in Turkey at different times. Any info on whom they were? Aircraft type? Date? Fate?

Were Lw personnel interned in other neutral countries apart from Sweden Switzerland and Eire? Any in Spain or Portugal?

Cheers
Brian

On the whole, before making more detailed corrections (looking at moves at the Staffel level), I start by assuming that, in July and August 1943, the actions of Stab, I, and III Gruppe can broadly be attibuted to the Battle of Kursk and the following soviet counter-attacks (Orel and Belgorod-Kharkov), and the actions of II Gruppe to the fighting over Kuban...

The late summer must also have been quite "active" but so far, I've concentrated my research on these two months.

Do you thing this is correct assumption (I know that there may have been a move Northwards by a small part of II Gruppe, but no more so far...) ?

Regards,

Kolya.

Additionaly I. Gruppe participated in fighting over Mius-Front in second half of July 1943, and approx. half of II. Gruppe transferred to Charkow area in early August.

Hello all,

Try to get hold of Niko Fast's Das Jagdgeschwader 52, IV. Band. Here you will find the losses of JG 52 and Jahreserfolgsbericht 1943 of I./JG 52.

Rob

Pawel referring to your homepage, did III/JG-52 move to Orel 14/7/43.

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

- Lt Nikolaus Jeschonnek (relative of the LW's Chief of Staff ?)
Yes, he was a relative of the "big" Jeschonnek. IIRC, he was a pilot in II/JG52. At least there is a picture of him in Lipferts diary, but it is borrowed away atm.

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

Many thanks,

Do you know if he was a close relative ?

I mean, General Hans Jeschonnek committed suicide less than two weeks after this pilot was killed, could this event have played a role in his decision ?

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

Hello Kolya1,

See: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Jeschonnek

http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...eschonnekH.htm

http://www.frontflieger.de/3-j-f.html

The reason for his suicide were other reasons.

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

Nikolaus Jeschonnek was his son IIRC. In fact Jeschonnek was an eyewitness of the air battle of Kursk, he also saw the desaster of soviet 2./17. air army at 5. 07. 43. Kursk (death of his son), Sicily and Hamburg were defeats for the Luftwaffe.

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

Acc. to Lipfert's diary,
- Nikolaus jeschonnek was a nephew of the Lw's Generalstabschef and
- died during a bomb attack on JG52's AF in Anapa on 5.8.'43.

Re: Info about some of JG52's pilots ?

Thank you both,

A quite close relative anyway, even if not a main motive of the general's suicide, that must not have raised his morale...

Besides that, could somebody indicate me a good source on JG51 (I'm mainly interested in the operations on the Eastern Front), and on the air war in the East in early 1945 ?

Thanks,

Kolya.
