Kriegsberichter

Are there any published sources on the make up and locations etc of the Kriegsberichter organisation? For example, is there a K report on the organisation?

not sure if this is of interest but ECPA-D 'documentaliste' Nicolas Férard is author of a very nice book published by 'Histoire et Collections'.

Re: Kriegsberichter

I have been asked to write about the PK/Kr Ber organization and although there are many photos, there is little from the Luftwaffe side even though it was established pre-war. Probably major on 1940 though!

If you need a very nice photo of a PK-Berichter doing his job during the BoB, I have a nice example.

Re: Kriegsberichter

On a basic search of the Bundesarchiv for »Kriegsberichter«, there’s 500+ hits but whether any of those describes the structure and disposition of the whole service obviously would call for more digging.

Thanks also Ed and Nick. I had already check the BA-too much to sift through for a simple want!

There is:

Adler gegen Falken.
Sonderdienste der deutschen Luftwaffe im Krieg gegen die Sowjetunion
- Manuskript 1967-

https://www.booklooker.de/B%C3%BCche...chen+Luftwaffe

The publication covers nine of the ten LwKBK for the Russian campaign.

(LwKBK7 was operating in Sicily, Africa and Greece and is not covered in this book)

In 1939, 4 Luftwaffen Propaganda Kompanien were established.

In 1940 they were renamed to Luftwaffen Kriegsberichter Kompanie.

Also in 1940 4 more LwKBK were created, bringing the number to 8 regular LwKBK.

From the improvised Fallschirm-Kriegsberichter-Zug Kassmann a Fallschirm-Kriegsberichter-Kompanie was established after the invasion of Crete.

Last, the Luftwaffen Kriegsberichter Kompanie z.b.V was created as a reserve for information hotspots.

However, this is part one 1941-1943, part two or "Band 5" I have never been able to find.

Me too I have some Kriegsberichter images, including some that I passed to Nick at Chandos on a PDF sample of the "Feindflügenfeier" book project, which I do hope will not be used without authorization from my part.

Re: Kriegsberichter

I just received my copy of the PK 666 book. I dove right into it. I had seen the advertisements and sample pages — the book already looked great — but actually holding it in your hands is something else entirely. What a fantastic book this has turned out to be! Undoubtedly one of the best books on the Westfeldzug and the history of the PK Companies.

It not only covers the advance of PK 666, but also provides an extensive history of the PK Companies, with numerous biographies of PK reporters. The amount of research that must have gone into this is incredible. Tracking down so many photos must also have been quite a challenge.

Not cheap, but absolutely worth the price: 568 pages thick and weighing 3.4 kg.

Re: Kriegsberichter

Peter: Is it KB in general and what about Luftwaffe KB specifically?

Peter T 28th June 2025 23:02

Re: Kriegsberichter

It's KB in general, but there is some info on the LW-KB.
