.. spoke to Peter earlier - in a nutshell there are on-going technical issues at the server which are taking way longer than expected to resolve...
fingers crossed the LEMB will be back soon.

Re: LEMB problems?

Kevin,

I'm sure Peter would be here - if he could. Unfortunately his home connection is also down until 22 February. Work is also in the way at the moment - all in all not a good time...
He was pretty peeved when I spoke to him ...he's invested a lot of time and energy in the board - not to mention financing the move to a new host just over a year ago...the whole point of the move then was to avoid scenarios like this one ...quite what the damage will be I don't know but I'm sure he'll be in touch as and when....

Re: LEMB problems?

None...I have fired a couple E mails off to Peter with no response either.
At this time we can only speculate? However I am sure Peter will surface when he is ready and let us know officially if it is a case of.....R.I.P.
I hope not!

The following note was posted yesterday:

UPDATE - 23rd February 2007
Please note that the LEMB is currently experiencing database and hard drive issues beyond the control of the Administrator. We are awaiting further detailed investigation by the forums host but they are unable to supply us with an idea of when normal service will resume.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Kind regards
Peter D Evans - LEMB Administrator

Re: LEMB problems?

Perhaps you don't Pilot, that's your choice. However a fair few people who visit and post here are also members of the LEMB and I would like to thank Dénes and Neil for keeping those who do up to date with events. The LEMB homeage will be updated on a regular basis and hopefully the forum will return to normal sooner rather than later...

Kind regards,

Re: LEMB problems?

Peter Evans- not my choice!!! I was log in there many months ago and see some of my material placed there. I have noted that they are taken from my site and at least they should note the source. Same afternoon I could not log in because user name was not acpeted and password was accepted. Also recovery via email was failed. Next day I have try again- the same result. Try from different web client- same result. I know what does it mean. Thank you for reply.

Re: LEMB problems?

Peter,

It has always been a shared community that frequents our forums and any setback is always a setback for us all. It is a sign of maturity that there has never been any competition, bias or negativity between us. Far from it, the flow of information exchanges freely from one forum to another, each having its own atmosphere and speciality.

Hopefully the provider will get his systems back in order ASAP.

Hals und Beinbruch!

So if he change user name, password and email this account is lost for you. My dignity do not allow to register again under dfferent name. Thank you for reply and your great work.

Re: LEMB problems?

Thanks for the positive thoughts and comments Ruy... its words like this that make me even more determined to ensure that the LEMB once again returns from the abyss of poor hosting... As for TOCH! and the LEMB, onwards and upwards in a spirit of mutual trust and co-operation... :)

As for your comments Pilot, I haven't got a clue what your on about. The issue of copyright/reproduction from other sources without credit has been one aspect of the LEMB that I have not held back from trying to address. I actually spend more time asking members to abide by the strict copyright rules than enjoying the forum! Perhaps you could drop me a PM to discuss this in private as I'm sure the members here are not interested...

Kind regards

A form of reanimation, yes. Still quite some data is missing, from what i can see... I hope it will not end up like "old LEMB", where 80% of the data was lost.

agreed hris, the loss of info after the hack was tremendous....and I know you yourself reposted alot of info from the old board and are to be commended for that...
Perhaps in a day or two we will be able to log on and.... I hope find things as they were?

To whom it may concern:

Latest Update - 1st March

So that you are all aware of what caused the current failure, I have reproduced below an extract of an email from our webhost:

"I have heard back from the experts today. It seems that the arm on the hard disc has well and truly buggered the hard disc got so hot that it has welded itself to the disc and this is what caused the failure.

1) being that the cooling fan failed.
2) being that the server should of shut down.
3) the data center should have picked up on it sooner.
4) The hard disc got so hot that the arm stuck to the disc.

This means that its buggered and the only resort now is to go through backups that we do."

There are two further issues:

1 - The database back-up made by the webhost is incomplete and they are still searching for a complete example.

2 - The database back-up I made in October is damaged. This is the version the board is currently running and the reason why there is a gap in posts.

Until there definitive news from the webhost, the forum will remain offline.
