Location of Baden airfield, near River Dnestr (Eastern Front)?
 

Does anyone know where was Baden airfield located? I know it was on the left shore of River Dnestr, in the Trans-Dnestra Region, close to another airfield, called Salz.

Which Luftwaffe units were stationed there in the Summer/Autumn of 1941?

I-16s of the Soviet 69 IAP (Fighter Regiment) attacked it on 22 September 1941, and reportedly destroyed more than a dozen aircraft on the ground.

Unfortunately, the size is too small, I cannot read it.
Is Baden listed? It should be very close to Salz ('Zeltsy' in transliterated Russian).

Could you zoom in into the bottom right corner, the area covering Odessa and the Dnestr area? It would be fairly urgent, as I need the info for a book I am currently working on.

I should have known about this AF before... it will not be on the Bessarabia-map for the simulator IL-2 :( .

Or is it maybe the same as "Saltz-AF"? This wone we have. I know a picture, which basically shows a row of Bf109Emils semi-hidden in a hedge...

So you think Salz and Baden are 2 different airfields? The distance between the 2 places is maybe 10km, I guess.

Yes, Selz (Salz) and Baden were two different airfields. One was used by ARR, the other by the Luftwaffe.

Would have been nice to get this information earlier in the according thread on the worldwar2.ro-Forum. Anyway, there are enough AF's on the map - I hope :o.

And when I ever do another map for another game, I know where to ask now :).

I looked out the places on a Luftwaffe-map from 1943, see attachement. Baden and Selzy are only 2km apart. This might be a bit to near for placing 2 different airfields... maybe it is just one airfield with different designations?

However, what's not clear is the spelling of the lower village. Was it Selz, Selzy, Salz, Saltz, or Zeltsy? I am interested in the official Russian name of the city in 1941.

Thanks, but what I am actually interested in is the official Russian name in 1941, not the current Ukrainian one, which is irrelevant to my book (which happens in 1941). For now, I will go with 'Selz (Salz, Zeltsy)'.
