Hi,

I'm curious to know if informations are disposable, somewhere, about the following Luftwaffe unit: LnVRgt Köthen. I'm somewhat perpexed by this regiment...
What kind of unit was it? In which type of mission was it implicated?
Were its pilots flying in single engine or multi-engines aircrafts?
Which type of plane was in strengh with LnVRgt Köthen? Any photos available? :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

Hi,
LnVRgt is in full name the Luftnachrichten Schul- und Versuchs-Regiment which II. Abteilung (renamed in August 1938 to the Luftnachrichten Abteilung 100) was a basic of the later known Kampfgruppe 100/Kampfgeschwader 100 using a system for precise bombing Gerät X. The unit based at Köthen from January 1937 and used at the latest from January 1938 Ju 52/3meo (7. Kompanie) and later He 111P/H (8. Kompanie) together with 2 Do 17U.

Regarding to your precisions, I wonder if the LnVrgt Köthen's mission was training board-transmitters or developing and testing new radio-transmission equipment's?

Further to Martin's post, see if you can get hold of a copy of Ken Wakefield's "The First Pathfinders". This book deals with KGr 100 from it's infancy at Köthen.

In the book, Luftnachrichten Schul- und Versuchs-Regiment is described as a wireless operators training school and experimental establishment - included in the unit were several flying Kompanien charged with conducting airborne trials.

Both 7 and 8 Kompanie were initially involved with the development of long-range W/T communications and radio direction finding.

Wakefield asserts that 7 and 8 Kompanien were used to form the basis of LnAbt 100.

So, I was really near of the attibutes of LnVrgt Köthen..., t'was in same time a radio-operators training school and a test unit for aiming materials.

is it possible to please bring here every information concerning the mentioned Do 17U's published in Wakefield's book (if some are there)? I'd like to confront it with or complete other sources of information.

Wakefield in Appendix 6 lists the weekly returns of Luftnachrichten-Abteilung 100.

14.10.39 Stab 1 Do 17U
21.10.39 Stab 1 Do 17U
28.10.39 Stab 1 Do 17U

18.11.39 Stab/KGr 100 2 Do 17U

Green in "Warplanes of the Third Reich" suggests that two Do 17U "pathfinders" were delivered to Ln.Abt. 100.

I seem to remember a discussion, either here or on the LEMB, about the Do 17U.

I will have a look through the Flugbuch from this unit. They used Do 17, He 111, Ju 52, W 34, Fi 156, Ju 88, Ju 86 and others. Timespan 1939-44.

Is there anything in the Flugbuch regarding the testing/development of Truhe (= German GEE) or I./KG66?

Hi Marcel.

Yes there is one entry concerning Truhe. It is done 30.05.44 in He 111 Skz. KU+DL. Start and landing in Köthen. Flight took 45 minutes.
