Interesting- I did not know that there was hangars for Bf109 only. Do you mean on hangar of German manufacture or captured and transported in Germany?

Re: Bf 109 hangars !!

Hei,

Yes there were hangers for 109's or 190's. In the Netherlands there is still one that exist, I'll try to post a photo later. This particular hanger was built near the airfield Bergen and today is used by a farmer for store.

Best regards,

Mathieu

Re: Bf 109 hangars !!

Smart farmer :) BTW- I have seen some blueprints but never note that they are specially designed for one type of airplane. Last hangars specially built for the one type is the airship hangars from WW1. So this is very interesting...

Holá matthieu,
thanks for posting those images. I attach here another hangar, that was used by JG 52. When I saw the photo first, I thought it would be to much an expense for hosting a single fighter plane and it might have been an exception. But now, after seeing your images and the info that even blueprints did exist for those obviously prefabed hangars I am convinced that they existed in quite larger numbers... Crazy, eh?

Cheers

Re: Bf 109 hangars !!

Hei,

I doubt that it are prefab hangers, the one in Bergen is made of bricks ( stones ) and made at the site. The book from were I toke the images writes that the walls are 80 cm thick. The other photo from JG 52 was also in the Netherlands, Katwijk had a small airfield during the war.

Best regards,

Mathieu

Re: Bf 109 hangars !!

Hi again,

Thank u very much for such a quickly response (as always :-), but non of "your" hangars are similar to "ours" up here in Norway.
Thr hangars I am referring to are to be found on "Lille Rygge airfield" in south-east of Norway.

There were 3 hangars in all, and all 3 are still intact today. They were built in 1944 and used by the "16./JG.5" from April 1945 to May 1945.

I'll be more than happy to post some images here but tell me how can post them ??

Warmest regards,

Jagdkommando

Hei Jagdkommando,

If you want to attach photo, just click "manage attachments" by additional options under this field. Normaly I attach images around 120 kB in size.
Looking forward to see your photos, is it possible to find the airfield at google earth?

Med vennlig hilsen,

Mathieu

Re: Bf 109 hangars !!

Hello-

These hangers appear as though they are made to look like houses from the air. I imagine it would be much harder for an enemy aircraft to spot them from the sky this way. Is this the intention?

After the Bf 109 hangars come the Bf 110 hangars...

These ones are located on Merville airfield in North of France. There is also a extremely rare wooden shack for a single engine fighter...

These photos have been taken by Laurent Bailleul, and I can only advise you to visit his website http://l.bailleul.free.fr which deals with V1 launching sites and airfields in North of France. The site is only at its beginnings as far as the airfields are concerned, but the goal is to make it a kind of reference for them!

Cordially,

JVM

You need an image host. There are several image hosting sites on the net, such as 'ImageShack' and 'Photobucket'. Upload your image(s) to the host and copy/paste for each image as JVM said.

Re: Bf 109 hangars !!

Hello Jagd!

Is Lille-Rygge airfield the modern one for the Norwegian AF at Rygge? If so, I did not see any trace on GoogleEarth of a Luftwaffe airbase there ...and consequently no hangar!

Where are they located? Lat/Lon would be fine...

cordially, JVM
