Re: Pilot Alfred Briefs, searching for details
Hi All,
during my reseach the last years I do have much more details and happy to share it. Briefs flew in 2./NAGr 13 and at March 18th 1945 he was shot down by most probably american Fighter pilots and KIA. He was buried in Bad Dürrheim then. Unfortunately I don't know which allied fighter unit was involved but eye withnesses told me the following: "3 enemy fighter were chasing the German pilot. The german pilot was already very deep. almost over the roofs of the village. They heard and saw gun fire and hit the German fighter. In the same moment the German fighter pilot was pulling up and tried to bail out but failed. The plne crashed into a forest, pilot was killed. Unfortunately I don't have any claim from american pilots that day and hope somebody can help me. Thanks a lot in advance Rolf |

Re: Pilot Alfred Briefs, searching for details
Hi Fred,
good to hear from you. Time to catch up in person and have a good coffee. I'm in posession of the "Gräber-Kartei". In this document it is written that Briefs was shot down at March 18th and found one day later at March 19th. This information matches with reports of eye withnesses. Just a few days ago I met an eye withness and his first words were: "It was on a Sunday, I know this beause my father was the teacher in the village of Vöhrenbach and it was our free day". March 18th was a Sunday. In addition this week I met some relatives of Alfred Briefs including the nephew of Alfred Briefs. All confirmed March 18th. So I almost beleive it was the 18th. Talk to you soon in person. Rolf |
