Group Captain Max Aitken KBE, DSO DFC

I am currently doing some research on Group Captain Max Aitken and wondered if anyone knew whether he actually wrote any memoires, which were subsequently published in book form.

Other than Aces High can anyone suggest any other publications where one may be able to find information on this former pilot.

Many thanks,

David

From memory, Roy Conyers Nesbitt's "The Strike Wings" (William Kimber, 1984) could be worth a look.

There are only a couple of direct references to Aitken in "The Strike Wings" but "A Separate Little War: The Banff Coastal Command Strike Wing Versus the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe 1944-1945" probably covers his command in more detail.

Hi David,

You should get hold of a copy of my book A Separate Little War which relates to his time when at Banff - September 44 to May/June 1945.
You can also get info of Flight Magazines Archive relating to him.
Sadly the family (Aitken and Beaverbrook) know longer have his material lost in a house move !!! He took some excellent film footage whilst at Banff according to those on the base, but again these have been lost.
Sholto Douglas book "Years of Command" also has info on him.
BBC Caversham, Berkshire has sound recording of him in the early years,
also Graham Warners Book on the Blenheim has a few mentions on Aitken.

The new version of A Separate Little War has new material in if my editor dosen't edit out. Let me know what you want of 18 years worth of stuff collected.
