The 5 page MACR 1743 starts here for those with fold3 access
https://www.fold3.com/image/1/28718269 Sadly page 2 is in poor condition. Have done my best enhance quality but the bottoms of the words are still cut off. 4 pages attached. This loss is attributed to mechanical failure rather than enemy action. First losing his right engine and later the left. Last sighted near Cuxhaven, Germany over the mouth of the Elbe River. 1st Lt John Barnett, ASN: O-732125, findagrave page here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...john-n-barnett |
Re: Missing Air Crew Report
Hello Marcel,
Try to get hold of a copy of "Double Nickel-Double Trouble", it has a good report of this loss and picture. Seems he lost one engine to mechanical failure, this was followed by compass loss and final second engine power loss, it was thought that if he had bailed out, the winds direction would take him inland rather than out to sea. He rests in Ardennes American Military Cemetery and Memorial, Neupre, Belgium. The 55th lost four a/c this date, three Kia, one Pow. Alex |
