Are you sure it is Panzergrenadier-Division Grossdeutschland? (GD was never designated a Panzer Division.) For the time frame stated GD never had it's own Panther tanks. In that period I/Pz.Rgt.26 was attached to GD as its own I-Abt was in France being formed up on Panthers and only returned to the Division late in the year.
The Panther in the photo has the turret number 501 which would indicate the 5.Kompanie which would be II-Abt but in GD the II-Abt were using Panzer IV's, not Panthers.

Could it be 24.Panzer-Division?

Hello, the car is Schwimmwagen, probably Type 166.

Hi Alex,

If memory serves, this is a Bundesarchiv photo.

The Panther Ausf. G “501”, Sd.Kfz. 251 and Schwimmwagen are from Kampfgruppe Muhlenkamp, 5.SS-Panzer Division "Wiking". The photo was probably taken in late July when the unit was involved in the counterattacks at Kamieniec-Litevski and relief of Gren. Btl. z.b.V. 560 in Eastern Poland.

Cheers,

David
