Me109E crash Landing Mystery

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine was told a story some years ago that an Me109E crashed near a place called Hartford Bridge Flats (Maybe in the area of Lightwater or Yateley Heath) during 1940. It is believed that it crash landed.

Would anyone know of this?

Kind Regards

Presume this is near Blackbush? I think this is another myth- closest crash would be Haslemere & both lost on 30 Sep 40 did not crash land

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for speedy reply. I am not sure, as I don't know the area. It was said that it was shot down, but thats about all I know. I have spoken to an old friend of mine who was a very early researcher, now 87 and he thinks it could have been one flown by the RAE at Farnborough and if so the crash would have been hushed up.

Kind Regards

By the summer of 1940, Bf109s had been captured & extensively flight tested so why hush it up? Also, flying a Bf 109 at that time if 1940 might not have been a good idea. Losses of airworthy captured 109s are known so I cannot agree why this would be hushed up

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for the reply. I have no idea, but I was just passing on the comment in the post and that is what it is just a comment he made. I started this thread as a favour to a friend who was told this story and thought it might be nice to tell him any info that might be out there. The guy who told him the story passed away some years ago and sadly is not around to ask further questions.

Kind Regards
