Blenheim loss 5 July 1941
Hi,
I'm looking for information of Blenheim loss on 5 July 1941 near Ostend. There were 6 Blenheims attacked 3 M/Vs and 4 "E"Boats. One of them was shot down by flak. Thanx in advance |
Re: Blenheim loss 5 July 1941
Hi Greg
Are you sure the date is correct? I can't find anything in Chorley's Bomber Command Losses 1941 volume, nor in Ross McNeill's Coastal Command Losses Volume 1 for that date. Of course someone else may know more... Regards Simon |
Re: Blenheim loss 5 July 1941
Hi Simon,
I got this information from NA AIR 16/235 (Fighter Command intelligence summary No 217-301 1941 Jan. 1941 Dec.), p. 234. I was interesting in is it correct. Thanx for answer |
Re: Blenheim loss 5 July 1941
On the other had could it be the Blenhein IV N3524 from 235 Sqn Coastal Command coded LA-O to which the records refer - even if it was off Norway

Re: Blenheim loss 5 July 1941
Hi Larry,
I was asking because I'd like to compare this information with Chronicle of 306 Sqn. which protected Blenheims off Ostend those day. There is an information about attack of 3 Me 109s which damaged one bomber. No infos about destroying Blenheim by flak in this Chronicle. Thanx for answer |
Re: Blenheim loss 5 July 1941
Not sure if related, but Sgt John Brown of 59 Squadron (flying Blenheims at that time, I believe) is buried at Ostend. Different date however: 7 July 1941.
