Luftwaffe FW190 losses Normandy 15 June 1944

On this date according to 2nd TAF the Jagdwaffe lost 13 Fw190s in aerial combat. Two were from JG2 (no details) and two FW190A-8 from 6 and 7./JG26. Can anyone identify the other nine? (and tell me more about the JG2 losses).

regards

Keith

JGr. 200's actions that day took place 600–700 km away from 2nd TAF's and no Fw 190 were involved. See here for details: http://www.ghostbombers.com/JG200/june_1.html

The book "La Luftwaffe face au débarquement allié" list 13 Fw 190 losses for 15 June 1944:

I./JG 1:
Fw 190 A-8 WNr 170737 "white 13", 1./JG 1, Lt Hans Gareis KIA, Saint Paul/Flers, air battle (against P-47 ?)
Fw 190 A-8, 2./JG 1, Uffz Wilhelm Woite unhurt, unknown place, air battle (against P-47 ?)
Fw 190 A-8 WNr 170735 "yellow 10", 3./JG 1, Uffz Horst Gabel KIA, Rabodanges/Falaise, air battle (against P-47 ?)

Confirmed by the Luftwaffe summary losses database:
3 aircraft destroyed by gunfire from enemy aircraft during operational flight, observed by enemy
1 aircraft damaged by gunfire from enemy aircraft during operational flight, not observed by enemy

I./JG 2:
Fw 190 A-8 Wnr 172655, 1./JG 2, Fw Heinrich Gawenat KIA, Evreux, air battle
Fw 190 A-8 WNr 171035, 2./JG 2, Fw Emil Burau KIA, Evreux, air battle
Fw 190 A-8 WNr 171054, 4./JG 2, Uffz Will Lang WIFA, Chartres, baled out after engine failure

Confirmed by the Luftwaffe summary losses database:
2 aircraft missing Due to enemy action
1 aircraft destroyed without enemy action on operational flight

III./JG 2
Fw 190 A-8 WNr 171611 (or 172611), 10./JG 2, Uffz Werner Krajl WIA, unknown place, enemy fighters

Confirmed by the Luftwaffe summary losses database:
1 aircraft destroyed by gunfire from enemy aircraft during operational flight, observed by enemy

I./JG 11
Fw 190 A-7 WNr 642539 "white 7", 1./JG 11, Uffz Gerhard Hübner MIA, unknown place, probably air battle
Fw 190 A-7 WNr 643701 "black 1", 1./JG 11, Oblt Fritz Engau WIA, unknown place, overturned on return to base after being hit in air battle
Fw 190 A lost, no details, probably air battle

Confirmed by the Luftwaffe summary losses database, but with only two total losses:
1 aircraft missing Due to enemy action
1 aircraft destroyed by gunfire from enemy aircraft during operational flight, observed by enemy
1 aircraft damaged by gunfire from enemy aircraft during operational flight, not observed by enemy

I./JG 26: nothing in Frappé, but two aircraft destroyed on the ground by enemy bombs according to the Luftwaffe summary losses database

II./JG 26
Fw 190 A-8 WNr 170712 "black 6", 6./JG 26, Ofw Alfred Günther KIA, Saint Hilaire/Orleans, air battle against P-51s escorting B-24s
Fw 190 A-8 WNr 730991 (or 730934) "brown 2", 7./JG 26, Oblt Waldemar Radener WIA, Dancy, air battle against P-51s escorting B-24s

Two losses confirmed by the Luftwaffe summary losses database:
1 aircraft destroyed by gunfire from enemy aircraft during operational flight, observed by enemy
1 aircraft destroyed without enemy action on operational flight (probably Günther who crashed into a river while trying to escape enemy fighters on the desk)

I./SKG 10
Fw 190 G-8/R3 WNr 190110 "yellow 4", 3./SKG 10, Fw Friedolin Böhlert MIA, unknown place, missing, no details

Confirmed by the Luftwaffe summary losses database:
1 aircraft missing Due to enemy action

Conclusion: from both above sources, the Luftwaffe lost 14 Fw 190 in France on 15 June 1944:
_ 11 missing or shot down by enemy aircraft (including the JG 26 one that crashed while trying to escape). Of these, 5 were lost probably against American fighters (P-47s, and P-51s escorting US heavy bombers)
_ 1 lost due to engine failure
_ 2 destroyed on the ground by bombs
Two more Fw 190s were damaged in air battles.

Frappé alos lists 19 Bf 109 losses for this day.

Re: Luftwaffe FW190 losses Normandy 15 June 1944

Many thanks chaps. I was looking for a link between LW losses and a combat by 132 Wing at 0645 GMT near Evreux. The RAF claims were for 8 Fw190 destroyed and over a dozen damaged. The JG2 losses seem a good fit but I had thought there may be other losses that occurred on or around that time.

best regards

Keith
