Location of Luftwaffe units from 12/43 - 04/45

Folks:

I'm new to this site, so please forgive me if I'm asking for info in the wrong section. I am the webmaster of a site in tribute to the 445th Bomb Group (Heavy) - flying B-24's out of Tibenham in East Anglia, near Norwich. They flew 280 missions between 13 Dec 43 and 25 Apr 45.

I am in the process of recreating the route maps flown on all 280 missions and am looking for what Luftwaffe units might have intercepted this unit while on a mission.

The 445th suffered significant losses to German fighters on 2 mission: 24 Feb 44 during Big Week going to Gotha, Germany (lost 13 of 25 acft) and 27 Sept 44 going to Kassel (lost 33 of 37 acft).

In all the 445th lost 109 aircraft to enemy action, either flak or fighters. I would like to be able to display those Luftwaffe units that fought so gallantly.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Mike,

If you go to http://www.lesbutler.ip3.co.uk/tony/tonywood.htm you will be able to download Luftwaffe claims lists for various theatres of war. Most of the claims are accompanied with a time so you should be able to, one would assume, cross reference German claims with 445BG losses. That should keep you busy for a while :)

Also, if you go to http://www.ww2.dk and click on air units, you will be able to check where almost all Luftwaffe air units were stationed throughout the war. This, coupled with the above, should help further narrow the field.

Hope this helps get you started!

regards

Adam
